Day 3: Ski School Success

December 25, 2022
OMG THIS VIEW!

Everyone took lessons again! G had a half day (in retrospect: next time, full days for G), A/C had a full day in which they graduated to the real lift and a legit green, and Josh and I took a 2.5 hour group lesson that was more like a semiprivate. Our instructor was amazing and so nice (and also: she’s an attorney/consultant with 2 kids who teaches ski on the side for fun. How BOBW is that!?).

she took this of me + Josh!

I definitely made progress over the 2 days of lessons!!! We did all greens (and will keep it that way today because we will be skiing with A&C) but she told us we were ready for blue and hopefully will get there on our next trip. I am 100% glad we took 2 half days of lessons. I want to do either 1 or 2 next time we ski, too.

G loved it though is not quite ‘real lift’ ready. She has day 3 of ski school today!

practicing!

We made it out to dinner (so far we’ve done: room service, frozen pizza in our room, pasta/veg in our room, and then finally OUT last night). Lotus Pad Thai was great.

Anyway it’s been happy to see the kids learning + having fun, and I definitely had a ton of fun skiing (Josh too). I am already planning our next ski trip (just not sure where yet, but back here is a serious possibility!

Will be back tomorrow with some things we learned / minor things I would change / things I want to do next time!

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate — and I’m excited to enjoy this next week of the year! I love the days between Christmas and 1/1.

I am so glad you are having so much fun!! This will be a great trip for you to take over the years! The cousin who hosted us last night was telling me about their family trip to Park City next weekend with their 3 kids who are in their 20s! That maybe will be you in 20 years!

Glad the weather turned out ok overall! There are so many great ski resorts to check out. I have only been to Steamboat Springs, which I ADORED! It’s super family friendly. But it is hard to get to. I spent 2 winter breaks of college working there plus a summer and nearly moved there after college since I loved it so much!!

Any Steamboat tips? We are going for the first time for Spring Break 2023! We live in Northern Colorado so we’re excited to check it out.

That looks so fun! I have only been skiing twice, and I found it terrifying both times. I think if we are (I am!) ever going to be successful, we need to do something like this where we go for multiple days and can take real lessons. I went up in a chair lift once, but I never learned how to turn or stop, so I just had to fall down and get back up when I wanted to change directions, lol.

That does sound terrifying! I definitely feel like I benefited from skiing as a tween/teen. But adults also start from scratch and do great- I believe Christine Koh (host of the Edit Your Life podcast) y started in her 40s and now she skis all the time. Multiple lessons in a row definitely helps! I will do lessons the next time we go, too.

This is so fun! There’s definitely something to be said for picking a place and returning year after year. My favorite childhood memories/traditions were from an annual summer trip where we stayed at the same house and generally went to the same beaches, restaurants, etc. And it’s easier planning! If you liked the ski resort, I definitely say go back!

We loved it. I really think we will just return next year and stay at the exact same place.

Looks like so much fun! No idea where to recommend for skiing but I’m sure you’ll think of some place amazing. It also looks like you managed to avoid the majority of the holiday travel angst. Yay for BOBW success!!

Yes I feel lucky 🙂 we missed one day of skiing but I’ll take it compared to how many flights and plans got messed up!

We’re doing our first family ski vacation later in January and I’m nervous, but also really looking forward to it. I’d love to hear about the gear you liked for you + the kids as it’s been a while since my husband and I have been skiing, too. I have to admit, I was really, really nervous for you guys when I saw the frigid weather forecast, but it sounds like everyone was ok! Phew!!

I am no expert but I was super happy with what we used so I will do a rundown. I was nervous too. Next time I won’t be. You will have a great time!

That’s amazing! I hate being cold, so no skiing for me but I think there’s something really nice about getting to know a place and making those traditions. My parents are in Portugal now and we come here and the routine, knowing what to pack, etc is really nice.

Yes! I have to say we do enjoy repeating trips: Amelia Island for example. I’m sold on returning here next year.

Yay, glad you had a great time and made the most of the cold temps! And that Lotus Pad was a hit. 🙂
