5 or 6 Very Quick Updates on a Friday

January 20, 2023

1- The dress I wanted to return is getting returned. Finally got in touch with customer service and the ‘Final Sale’ was a mistake and they sent me a return label. WHEW.

bye, dress. Need to order an alternative.

2- Cameron got picked for “All-Star” soccer! Super exciting and I am proud of him. Even if it means two games this weekend . . .

I have no good action shots, but at least he’s in his uniform?

3- But I won’t be at the first because I am ‘racing’ a 5K tomorrow. I am hoping to do better than this race which I ran in September at ~9:00/mi pace. It was in the mid-80s and humid that day, so hopefully at least tomorrow’s weather will be better?

let’s just hope 80s doesn’t apply to the temperature.

I would love to approach an 8:30/mi pace for the 5K. Funnily enough that’s also what I was aiming for in Sept (but I didn’t do achieve it). I have not decided if I will wear my super shoes. Maybe.

4- Annabel is performing in Beauty and the Beast on Sunday night after months of rehearsals. (She is in the ensemble — with roles from ‘sausage curl girl’ to ‘a napkin’ in Be Our Guest. Can’t wait to see this!)

5- BLPA Sesson 1 was a lot of fun! We had a lively group of incredibly smart + accomplished women who love to think about all things planning (and planning-adjacent!). I’m really happy I decided to put this together.

6- I did not complete (or post) my 2023 Reading List and have decided I’m going to keep it fairly minimal anyway (ie, not migrate all my prior ideas but keep it more fluid). That said, I am crushing my reading goals of a novel every 10 days and 2 non-fiction picks/month — about to start my 4th novel. Thinking about The Measure by Nikki Erlick but I also have The Lincoln Highway at home already so that might be the more convenient option. I’ve gone back to reading almost entirely on paper and I love it.

Here with a gentle suggestion on the race. You are recovering from COVID so maybe make an effort based goal such as feel like you left it all out there! Maybe that will be 8:30 but maybe that is not realistic now and it does not diminish how HARD you have been working (avid reader, occasional commenter). I accidently did Boston with Covid last spring and I really think if there was a way to adjust for that it was a PR race (but in reality the median of my 5 [and only!] fulls).

Or if you want to hold onto the #, maybe do the ABC goal trick:
    A goal – 8:30 pace
    B goal – negative splits
C goal – push when you want to walk

Looking forward to the race report!

Makes sense 🙂 part me of me wonders if I truly had Covid since I only had a very faint positive one day! But I definitely had something. Going by effort will be a good goal 🙂

I hope you did so you have a few months of not worrying about when you will get it next!

I hope the weather is nice tomorrow! I find 5ks to be sooo challenging! I hope you have a good race but if you don’t meet your expectations, try not to be too hard on yourself since you just had the flu and maybe Covid!

The Measure is a really fast read since it’s so plot driven. It would be a great book club pick! Your reading pace is off to a great start! I have had a slower start to the year but haven’t read much that has felt propulsive and I have had so many social plans this month which has eaten into my reading time!

The Lincoln Highway was one of my favorite books in 2022! Good luck tomorrow!

Lincoln Highway audiobook was good too. I like to listen the audiobooks on my (short) commute and also have the physical book handy so I can finish the chapter (or more) in the evening.

Good luck at your race! I’m sure it will be better than you think, and if it’s not, you have a great reason.

    Also – congrats Cameron!!
