Today + Random Weekend Pix

March 28, 2023

Packed day . . .

Today is one of those days where a time block plan would probably be helpful . . . but at the same time I don’t really want the self-imposed pressure! I think I will just try to methodically plow through my list in order of priority and see how things shake out.

I have two kid-related medical appointments, one kid home sick, and possibly an ulcer which I am self-medicating with over the counter omeprazole. All that said, everyone (including me) is okay and this too shall pass and also yes — grateful that I have flexible childcare on days like these because I have a number of commitments that would be very hard to move. Including –>

SPRING BLPA starts today — excited for that! Behind the scenes note: the first round I was NERVOUS every time I had a zoom scheduled (cohort 1 is 6/7 of the way through — their final session is Thursday!). Now I am more just excited to work with a new group.

I’m also thinking about what the next round might look like. I feel like SUMMER will either be the time for a) a break or b) something more specific and lighter. Thinking about a miniseries on screen-related habits + distractions. Still in the works, though! (Ideas are welcome!)

PIX FROM THE WEEKEND:

No pix allowed during Mary Poppins but this was pre-show. C is acting / pointing at nothing . . .
Into the Woods!!!!! And would see some of the others, too.

SHOE LINEUP:

ASICS Gel Nimbus // Hoka Clifton 8 // Nike Alphafly

Apparently it took me 42 years to become a multiple running shoe person but . . .here we are.

I’ve seen Mary Poppins twice (including once on Broadway in NYC) and just love it. The music! The costumes! The sets. Such a fun adventure with your kids <3

I have been wearing ASICS Nimbus for years. Have the same pair as you. I’m getting blisters more easily on the inner ball of my foot. Do the Hokas have more cushion for longer runs?

Hi! The HOKAS are quite cushioned but definitely feel very different overall than the Nimbus. Different drop height, etc. In some ways they just feel ‘looser’/less structured if that makes sense?

I have heard many people prefer the Clifton 8 to the Clifton 9 if you do decide to try them!

Oh that looks great! We went to a winter show which was lovely and interactive, and tickets are released for live action Aladdin at the end of the week. We still have credit from something cancelled during the pandemic, so my husband and son will head to that.

I did a block of 4 shows with a theatre company this year. You got a 4th show free if you booked 3, so it felt worth it, and I’m really enjoying seeing more theatre. I saw Macbeth with my husband, and a debut play from an Egyptian playwright about the aftermath of the Arab Spring with a friend, she was less entranced than I was, but I think I just really enjoy live theatre. I hate the cinema but the theatre is my favourite.

Ooh I would love to see live action Aladdin! I love that my kids are finally old enough to really enjoy (some) theater. I want to keep going. I thought about a subscription and may go for it!

I have tickets to see the Royal Ballet production of “Cinderella” at the Royal Opera House in London with my younger daughter for her birthday next month and then we are going to a local production of “My Fair Lady” after Easter, we this time being me, daughters (23 and 19) and my mum and dad (both 83). My mum saw the original West End production as a student in 1958, with Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison and Stanley Holloway actually on stage – how amazing is that? And she still has the original programme. Really looking forward to both and so glad to be able to do this kind of thing again after being so careful during Covid.

Our local high school just did the SpongeBob musical and it was surprisingly good! Not a fan of the show. My 7 and 11 year old boys really liked it. Would recommend- I expected to tolerate it but actually really enjoyed it.
