Mixing it up today . . .
1- My sneakers. I wear scrubs* most Fridays now (and also on call) but the real benefit is not the outfit – it’s the sneakers. I seriously believe I enjoy my job more now that I am comfortable all day. I can move faster and more easily around the office, too! At least one patient noted that I was shorter than I was last time (for many many years I wore a lot of heels). I don’t care. I will own it.
2- MOMMY DAY with G was a (huge!) success.
PLUS dinner out at Blue Ginger (sushi). It was quite the day! And now I am 3/3. I will continue this yearly tradition but might try to space them even more next time.
3- Big kids are coming home tonight!! I am looking forward to seeing them and to two weeks of relative quiet still to come. Maybe this camp actually is BOBW . . .
4- Loved listening to this Midyear Techo Kaigi (notebook stack review, essentially) from The Stationery Cafe this morning. If nothing else I felt validated for having so many planners and feeling the need to switch so often!
5- Josh is not on call this weekend! Yay. He was on part of last weekend and for 4th of July so this feels . . . novel and exciting! We have a date night planned (hoping to see Asteroid City before it leaves theaters or alternatively Joy Ride).

I wore tennis shoes no matter what during the last part of my last pregnancy and now I really can’t tolerate uncomfortable shoes at work any more (am also an MD). I agree it makes such a big difference! I’ve gotten a few pairs of cute sneakers and will even wear them when I don’t wear scrubs bc I feel like they look fine with cropped pants and even some skirts and dresses.
I think I need to look into that idea – some skirts and pants that work with super casual shoes.
Cariuma shoes! They’re comfy, have fun bright colours, you can throw them in the wash and they’re one step less casual than sneakers. I work in primary care as an NP and pair them with Boden dresses or dark jeans.
I get compliments all the time!
Much like Amanda, not sure why I spent so much time wearing less comfortable shoes.
I went to a huge technology conference a few months ago, and almost everyone, it seemed, was wearing sneakers with their business casual wear and even with their suits. I hate shopping for footwear because I wear a size 10.5, which is often hard to find, but some work-appropriate sneakers are next on my list!
I bought some fancy new balance hipster sneakers to wear to work. They even work with dress pants. Life is to short to tolerate foot pain.
100% agree!
