Instead of 5 links/recs/random notes, I will share 5 things I have booked, because I am apparently on a planning spree:
1- Nutcracker! We haven’t gone the last couple of years (G was too young) but with both girls in ballet I really wanted to go this year. C required a bit of convincing but I told him he could pick a restaurant for afterwards 🙂 Going in Miami mid-December.
2- Mitski! Love her music and when I got an alert she was coming to Miami Beach I just went for it. We might do it as a sleepover (ie, bring the kids, all of us sleep over) at Josh’s parents in Miami Beach since the concert is there.
3- Ummmm . . . a hotel in Traverse City Michigan? Well, this was premature but it’s fully refundable so I just did it because I think doing the Bayshore Marathon next year would be really fun (it’s on our anniversary weekend too, so perfect couples trip!).
4- Denver plane tix because I am going on a college girls’ weekend trip in November!! Cannot wait.
5- JAX: Actually, this is something I didn’t book – Josh and I were thinking of flying to our race, feeling concerned about post-marathon stamina for driving home (and we want to go home that night because the next day is G’s bday!). BUTTTTT tickets to JAX were $$$ and not at the right times and then I realized the drive was 5 hrs (not 6) so . . . we will be driving. We can take turns napping I suppose!
I have my first 20-mile run tomorrow which feels more momentous than it probably is (since I’ve done a number of 18-mile runs over the past few months). But I’m still excited. ALSO – excited to virtually spectate and cheer on my Chicago-running friends on Sunday! I am tracking you all on the app, along with some of my favorite elites!! ( <– is that creepy? If so, I’m sorry!!). Best of luck to Anna, Kristie, Chelsea, and Coco!!
Otherwise, it’s a pretty chill Josh-call weekend up ahead. One soccer game, A/G gymnastics, piano, etc. Probably some more baking of some kind!
AND ALSO:
I actually laughed out loud listening this year (and then texted Kelsey IRL). Such a fun festive welcome to fall!

I love the 5 on a Friday vibe. Good luck on your 20-miler tomorrow! I have been there and it is an incredible feeling. Have fun!
Your 20 mile run must feel less daunting since you’ve trained so long and hard! I hope it goes well. My last 2 marathon I did 3 20-22 mile runs and it really helped with my confidence. I had step back weeks in between. It made the distance way less daunting than my other 2 cycles where I just did 1 20 miler 3 weeks out from the race.
I’m excited to track Coco – need to sleuth to find Chelsea’s name! 😉 it’s probably in Patreon. Or chelsea if you see this, email me at Lisasyarns@gmail.com if you aren’t creeped out by a virtual cheerleader. Ha! I so wish I had ran Chicago. I was signed up to do it in 2013 but got a stress fracture and then my RA dx. It was fun tjr spectate but I would have loved to have run it but oh well. (My marathon days are over as I can’t bare to have hip surgery again like I did on my left hip after my 2015 marathon. I have the same anatomical abnormality on the right so higher mileage increases the risk of surgery on that side and I’m determined to not go through it again!).
It’s fun to add things you are excited about to the cal! I am really excited about a pumpkin event at the zoo on Oct, wild Kratts live in November, and The grinch at the children’s museum in December. I really wanted our 2.5yo to get a grinch costume for Halloween. It’s so on point for him… he’s sooo moody in the am and he loves the animated show with Benjamin Cumberbatch voicing the grinch. But I could not convince him to be the grinch.
Yes my plan is similar – long runs I have left are 20, down, 20 w tempo, down, 22, down 22 w tempo, and then taper !!!! Love your family plans. Still have fond memories of seeing wild kratts live!
Ah I was so excited to see you talking about TC! I’ve run Bayshore 3X (all >10 years ago) – it’s so peaceful and such a great (fast) marathon. I love that area and I’m happy to provide recs as you get closer! Curious if this was influenced at all by Tom Lake??
Oooh … maybe subconsciously!!!! Ha!
Amazing! It’s so fun to fill that calendar up. I’m on under husband orders to stay on the sofa o after an exhausting week / what seems to be a lupus flare, but trying to do some of the more fun things on my to do list while sofa bound. It’s been raining heavily for 18 hours and we’ve got another 24 of it so I’m not missing anything. T and A will drive to music lessons (normally we cycle as a family).
We are seeing the Snow Queen at Christmas which I’m looking forward to. Some friends are coming up and having a sleepover at our house.
Transverse City has a wonderful bookstore with very knowledgeable book sellers. It might be fun to stop by if you have time.
that sounds awesome!!!
Thanks for the Nutcracker reminder! Just bought my tickets for her in Santa Barbara as well. I didn’t even realize they were on sale yet!
It’s so fun to have things to look forward to and I think you’re fantastic at doing this. I rarely plan events that far in advance, but it takes a lot of pressure of, reduces costs, and just extends the runway for happy anticipation <3
The anticipation is really worth a lot to me! I love having bright spots to look forward to.
I live in Traverse City!!! So happy to see you’re coming. Glad you booked your hotel early 😊
Awww thank you! I think it would be awesome to do (and a lot easier to train for than Big Sur which I was eyeing before!).
