7 Weeks Until Bayshore Marathon

Getting sort of close now? I guess? 7 weeks still sounds like a while! But I’m already thinking about the race, from my shoe choice to my pacing strategy.

(And I’ve already started sending good weather vibes to Michigan. Because a 50-60 degree day vs a 70-80 degree day would be two entirely different experiences . . . too bad I can’t control that part!)

M: Morning run with friends! 9 mi @ 9:00/mi average (yes, exactly 9.0 at 9:00, not sure how I managed that!)

T: Hill repeats on the TM. Warmup outside (3 mi @ 9:04/mi and it was HOT since I ran later – like mid-80s), 12 x 1 min hills @ 4-5.5% grade, 7-7.1 mph with 90 second jog breaks in between that turned into partial walk breaks by the end because I was DYING. Cooldown outside @ 9:47/mi. Total 9 mi.

20 min Peloton strength –> Lower Body with Logan Aldridge. Used 15-25 lb weights and was sore for days, next week I’ll go a little lighter.

W: Another friend run on very tired legs, 9 mi 2 9:24/mi

R: Chill Square — this is when I run a square route alone and as chill as possible 🙂 8 mi @ 9:47/mi

20 min Peloton strength –> Upper Body with Rad Lopez.

F: 7 mi @ 8:55/mi. The cold front hit!! 62F for this one!

S: 18 mi long run @ 8:43/mi average trying out new super shoes! I ordered the ASICS Metaspeed Edge Paris thinking I may wear them in the marathon. It will be a hard choice between these + Alphaflys! I LOVED how they felt. So maybe leaning towards these . . . but that means not putting too many more miles on them before race day (maybe one more run to help make the decision). Also, it was 60F which felt absolutely amazing.

the color of the shoes is pretty awesome too
(ignore the HRs! Figured out that whenever it is not hot/sweaty, the sensor on my Apple Watch ends up capturing cadence instead of my actual pulse. . . )

S: Planning some strength / easy yoga (Peloton)

Total = 60 miles / strength x 3 (yay!)

HUGE shout out to COCO this morning who rocked the Paris marathon!!! I will let her share all the details but Kae and I were tracking her this morning and going nuts as she finished and I think she will be super happy!!!!!

Reading This Week

Back by popular demand 🙂

I am 3/4 through Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boyland, and 1/2 through (page 366/700!) The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. I took a little break from Covenant but I’m back to it, using it as my morning read even though it’s not nonfiction! It has definitely grown on me with time.

I had a text from Kae about her finish her I woke this morning (I slept way later than usual (7:20) since I was up with insomnia for 1.5 hours in the middle of the night. Ugh.) I was so thrilled for Coco!!! And she had a huge margin for going sub 4! 3 minutes is a massive undershoot of her goal!!

7 weeks will go fast, especially with a 3 week taper! So you really only have about a month of hard training and then it’s about staying healthy (I assume you do a 3 week taper?). I hope you have excellent race weather. It’s almost guaranteed to be much much cooler than what you are used to running in!!

I’ll be heading to your state, but way further north (Fort Walton Beach in the Destin area). The weather forecast isn’t great… kind of overcast and in the low 70s but oh well. We will still have a great time and it will be warmer and way more humid so likely quite comfortable for us midwesterners! My parents come with so I am excited for some extra hands to help with the toddler. We haven’t been back to FL since Feb of 2020 so are looking forward to it!!

I don’t think you’ll be cold!! But next time if you want guaranteed heat . . come near me 🙂 🙂 Or a bit further north –you might like Vero! It’s super chill!

Great job!! So excited to watch your journey towards Bayshore. Will you remind the other race predictor you’ve used besides Metathon? Thanks!

Oh good!!! I’m excited for Coco. I can’t wait to read about it on her blog!
Wasn’t the weather amazing yesterday morning??? Perfect for a long run. And, I’ve decided if I could have a superpower, it would definitely be to control the weather. Life would just be SO MUCH EASIER if we didn’t have that uncertainty! (and the heat, and the humidity…). Sounds like you’re going to be more than ready for this marathon.

Hi Sarah! There’s lots of hope for good weather at Bayshore. I live in Traverse City…my son was born May 23 and he came home from the hospital on an 85 degree day and I’ve sat on the beach while all the Bayshore runners pour into the water BUT I’d say 50-60 degrees is more likely. I’ll have my fingers crossed for a beautiful morning!! Have fun!🤩

So good to hear! I guess I am very prepared for heat (compared to locals anyway) but I’d much rather it stay away!!!!
