1- We made it! There were delays (apparently our plane had a flat tire?) and we flew through a thunderstorm en route from MIA to O’Hare, but we arrived in Traverse City a mere 4 hours later than expected. Thankfully there was still time to grab some local beer + more carbs (there are like 383 breweries and brew pubs here!). There was a live musician playing who was really good!
2- I read all of Deena’s book! Love her perspective and overall attitude.
3- SO MANY CARBS. Lemonade. Crepes. Pretzels. If tomorrow goes poorly, it will not be for lack of glycogen storage.
4- Shakeout. There was a formal shakeout offered by the race with Des Linden that might have been cool, but Josh and I decided to just do our own (very low key) thing today! The run was so promising – just felt so easy in my race shoes with the amazing weather here. I WILL NEED TO HOLD MYSELF BACK tomorrow so I don’t regret my choices later. This is my new mantra . . .
5- Playlist locked + loaded! I decided to go with a mix of my Taylor Swift faves for the first 14 songs and then the playlist launches into a very random mix of old / new / kid-inspired. Each kid has a section: A has Olivia Rodrigo, C has Shawn Mendes, and G has “Fly to Your Heart” (which happens to be her current ballet recital selection). FOR POSTERITY, it is exhibited below.
AHHHH HERE WE GO.
Will update post-race!

yes! hold back for longer than you think you need. that was my experience, 18 miles of holding back to be able to more of less sustain the pace and speed up last mile.

Congrats! I can’t wait to hear/read all about it!
I just looked up your race results – congrats on doing such a great job! Can’t wait to read the detailed report. My massage therapist is also up there running – when he mentioned he’d be running a marathon this weekend, he was so impressed when I asked him if he was doing Bayshore. Which I of course attribute solely to following your blog.
Aw thank you!! It was awesome!! I bet your massage therapist had a great day too.
It sounds like you’re ready! Carb-loading and playlist and all… hope it was amazing!
I just snooped (the first time I ever looked up marathon times in my life) and hooray! What an amazing accomplishment.
