STRESSSSSS

June 26, 2024

I’m kind of stressed out today. A is still sick with high fever and now on more antibiotics (she had a test for basically every virus and it was negative). I really really hope they work. She is definitely not getting her wisdom teeth out on Friday so I guess that’s one less thing to think about in the immediate future, but man – I just want to have her wake up and feel good and NOT be burning up. Tomorrow will be day 7 since this started and I don’t tend to get too worked up or anxious about my kids’ sicknesses but this one is really persistent and needs to GO AWAY.

She is also really sad to be missing dance camp and gymnastics — especially having just started on the team! That said, those things won’t matter in retrospect. This infection just needs to go away.

On the flip slide, I guess I can say I am grateful that:

  • I am on call which is actually MORE flexible in a way sometimes; I was able to take her to work with me this morning to be seen here which worked out well
  • I am not used to this, thanks to generally healthy kids (yes there has definitely been some stuff, but nothing serious or severe and I KNOW how incredibly lucky that is)
  • I have good insurance so things are covered mostly and I don’t have to think about cost for the most part when it comes to medical care

Hopefully good news to report later.

Sorry to hear that she is not improving. I was going to guess that she maybe had adenovirus but that was probably in her viral panel. My kids have both have it and IT WAS AWFUL. It just has to run its course and our ped explained it as a “shape shifting virus” that can present differently from kid to kid. My older had GI issues, my younger had high fevers and upper respiratory symptoms but then he ended up w/ pneumonia – maybe because he got adenovirus on the tails of Strep and infuenza A. This all happened last fall when my husband also had pneumonia. IT WAS ROUGH. I hope she is better soon and that the rest of you stay healthy. Those high fevers are so concerning as they really zap a person. Our younger son seems more susceptible to fevers. I can’t remember the last time I had a fever!

It was on the panel. I guess sensitivity is not 100% but I would have felt better knowing a viral culprit.

whenever we go to hospital for kids, I’m deeply grateful to be able to go without worrying about the financial cost, every single time.
hopefully she gets better with the new meds. 7 days of high fever is not fun and would stress me out big time.

Ugh, that IS stressful. There’s nothing worse than worrying about sick kids. And, I feel bad for her that she’s missing dance and gymnastics! Not the way you wanted your summer to start.
Good luck with it- I hope she feels better soon.

I’m sorry to hear she’s had high fevers for so long. I hope she’s on the upswing today.
