BLP Ep #212: Mixed Bag: PTO Tracking, Post-Vacation Analysis + 2025 Planner Preview (Hobonichi + More)

August 19, 2024

It’s a Mixed Bag ep! Topics covered:

1- My version of a PTO Spreadsheet – inspired by Kae:

2- Vacation Postmortem! Consider doing a post-trip analysis with a partner. Can also extend to other home areas (summer, a school year, a holiday season, etc!)

3- Two upcoming books I’m excited about – Kendra Adachi’s The Plan and Oliver Burkeman’s Meditations for Mortals: Four Weeks to Embrace Your Limitations and Make Time for What Counts.

4- Hobonichi Release! I always love their slow and steady cover releases.

that last one is kind of fun

5- Hemlock & Oak Paper Covers – great for those who love the paper quality of H&O but want less bulk. I’m curious to see if they fit into Hobonichi covers.

6- Halo Planner is out! Note – currently it shows the price in $HK ($350) but when you update your cart it switches to USD (and is $46 USD, definitely not $350!).

7- NEW Just Scribble Planners – another Tomoe River Paper option.

Looking forward to listening to this episode while I run errands later today. There are several Hobo covers that have caught my eye this year – I’m leaning towards the Hiroko Kubota.

I think I am leaning to the Denali one! Also considering a HON?! So fun to ponder …

I am big on post-mortems. As a project manager, I do them a lot at work but also in my home life especially after vacations, summer, and the Christmas holiday. We had a similar experience with our summer vacation this year as I would also rate it as A-/B+. There was A LOT of driving involved which kind of put a damper on things. But as we plan for summer vacation 2025, we’ve already made the decision it will be a flight vs. a road trip and city based based (we did Banff, Canada this year) which already helps with the planning!

That’s very funny bc as we were bemoaning our trip we were considering Banff for next year! But now I think leaning to NH or Maine.

Jessica, what else made your Banff trip less than perfect?? Just the driving part? That’s a place high on my list, too, for someday. Maybe I can avoid some of your pitfalls if we ever go! 🙂

I love my Hemlock and Oak weekly and I love the idea of paper covers. I just preordered mine. I am trying to decide what to do about a habit tracker. I have been using the cultivate what matters power sheets but it feels so redundant with BLPL and the monthly review in the H&O. I am totally open to suggestions!

Yes that is a lot of similar stuff!!! Power sheets can be through the year and BLPL can be an “in the moment” place to initially process / jot down perhaps? My pdfs are pretty but not we pretty as power sheets admittedly!!

Can anyone here recommend a good ad blocker that works on blogs like this? Sorry Sarah for taking over but I need a solution.
    thank you!!

Hi!! Not an ad blocker (others may have recs for that) but you can always read through Feedly or get posts emailed to you for free (see the sidebar). Also working on potential ad network switch for more targeted content and less overall but it’s on the back burner currently just need to finish some other things first!

Sorry Sarah – I hope it’s not rude of me to complain about the ads because I’m sure it’s costly to run the site and I am so appreciative of it. It is just so Ad heavy but it’s frustrating to get through it all.

No prob at all!! Plus you were not just complaining to complain you wanted a solution. That seems very reasonable 🙂

I hear you Arden. I have AdBlock installed on my personal laptop and phone and it works great. I can’t use the software on my work computer and phones and the ads all over the internet are so unpleasant.

Ah…that helps so much. Thank you Alyce!
