I know it seems like I just got sick, but yesterday was actually day #3. And today I am not 100% back to normal – but I’m close!
HOORAY.
Want to know what I REALLY can’t do well when sick?
PLAN!
I KNOW. Specifically, I absolutely could not muster the energy or will to write our family’s complicated weekly schedule up on the board. Consequently, I am learning exactly how much everyone depends on this act (a lot). My inability to do it supports my theory that planning is HARD! It’s not something to squeeze in when you’re tired or in the margins. It’s actually best done when fresh. I’m not suggesting that anyone plan for hours to the point where they run out of time to do anything else, but it’s not the casual low-energy activity many people want to believe it is.
(Though I am possibly preaching to the choir here!)
ANYWAY. Life goes on, even without a plan on the wall. Just not as smoothly as usual.
Let’s talk about a few random things I have seen lately that got me excited.
1- YEAR END COUNTDOWN LIST SEASON has begun! I love this particular genre of post/episode so much. NPR All Songs Considered release their first “top albums” episode today and I enjoyed it on my run (yes I was even able to run today). I always want to do some sort of listening project with these lists, and then never do. Maybe this will be the season . . .
Here’s their complete list. I will pretend TTPD was on there because it should be.
2- GLENNON DOYLE QUIT SOCIAL MEDIA. I mean maybe this isn’t headline worthy but I thought it was interesting! I also appreciated the counterpoint from her wife who feels she can enjoy SM in moderation.
3- WORD OF THE YEAR!!! The annual episode just came out on Happier. Did I already reveal mine? I forget, lol. I did share it at BLP Live! I guess I have to now.
I’m going with FINITE for 2025! Yes, very Jodi Wellman/Oliver Burkeman of me, I know. But I’m into it! I like having a reminder of my finite time, my finite energy, how every choice to do something is a choice to not do something else. Perhaps I can cull my household belongings to a more finite number (lol). I am sure I can come up with further applications.
Gretchen and Elizabeth were discussing symbolism – I think mine would be an hourglass. Will not be getting an hourglass tattoo or anything but maybe something else with that symbol.
Oh, and I started Season 2 of Bad Sisters while laid up yesterday. I really did rest most of the day and it was very helpful; today I am back at work but feeling much improved from the past 3 days.
If it is possible, S2 seems even darker than S1!! But that is not really a complaint; I enjoyed it.

Refuah shelaimah! I’m also loving season 2 of Bad Sisters. If anybody is looking for something more lighthearted, I recommend Man on the Inside (Netflix)
I definitely had to google that!!! And thank you!
FINITE — I love it! Maybe a chemistry beaker or one of those glass measuring cups with the volume marked on the side for 1/4, 1/2, etc.?
BTW, before I got to this screen I was asked to subscribe to the newsletter in exchange for a free budgeting/planning guide. But I could only see a First Name field, and then got an error message that email address was needed. Lather, rinse, repeat – I couldn’t sign up.
