Best Laid Plans

Ep #237: Morning Routine + Book News

February 10, 2025

Today’s episode is dedicated to all things morning routine! I share her own (in detail) and discuss all of the questions to ask yourself if you’re looking to add a bit more to your mornings (or not — no “right” or “moral” answer here, some people love long/elaborate morning routines and others don’t!).

Daily page example:

example page from last weekend – Groundhog Day immortalized forever, lol. and yes I track my NYT games on there. For no other reason except that it’s kind of fun.

Along the top – habits (meditation, go outside, reading, music, Duolingo); then the line has screen time minutes (in this case 151)

Check or X in box = I got it done; > symbol means pushing it forward. I was a little overambitious on this particular Sunday (as sometimes happens!).

And I’ve shared before here, but today I shared on the pod that Best Laid Plans: A Simple Planning System for Living a Live That You Love will be out in January 2026!!

So excited for your book, Sarah! Like Laura, I’m going to add this to my list to check to pre-order in November/December? ๐Ÿ˜Š You should absolutely plan to make a stop in Minneapolis/St Paul!

So exciting! January 2026 is not that far away. Will you do a book tour of some sort? This is beyond wonderful <3

I feel like I am already well-versed in your morning routine (๐Ÿ˜…) but I learned a few new things about it! You know I love hearing ALL the logistics, so this was great! Gave me some food for thought about not shying away from being a little more structured/regimented with mine in order to stay on track and fit in more of what I want to use that time for!

I actually meant to ask you about the letters in the upper right corner.

Love this episode. Super excited about your book.
Related to this morning routine, can you share how throughout the day you update the journal?

  • Reply Jane February 10, 2025 at 9:18 pm

I will also definitely preorder!! So exciting!

Preorder!!!!!! I canโ€™t wait! Also what does the chore thing in the lower right stand for? And circles and 0:57? This is an over the top Sunday and I love it.

      Oh wait. NYT games?

I really love how detailed you were about your planning routine as of the morning. It was helpful to think about! Congrats on the book!

I LOVED this episode! First time I felt validated in a morning routine video. Thank you for speaking to working moms lives. I take what would be in my morning routine and start at work breaking it up throughout the day. I have to be at my first meeting at 7:15 and and am not a morning person, so getting dressed is all I am willing to do. I have spent years feeling like a morning routine failure, even though I fit the things in throughout my day. I am more of an evening routine person. Thank you for showing a different perspective!

Thank you so much for sharing your morning routine. Will you share what your media tracking implies? I see you use letters and symbols, but I have never figured out what they stand for.

Hooray the book is coming out not in Jan 2026, canโ€™t wait! Will preorder of course. I loved this episode, and was inspired to write a blog post on my own morning routine this week.
