Show Notes
In today’s episode, I reflect (again) on routines, noting that my recent episode on morning routines is already obsolete (as it applies to my own morning routine, anyway!). I share thoughts about being flexible as you set your routines, and on the need to continually re-evaluate. Then, I discuss my current (new, evolving) morning routine.
Then, I pivot to all things weekend planning, as inspired by Kae noting that weekends were feeling . . . unsatisfying at times.
This includes my rationale for why you should dedicate time to plan your weekends (at least as much as the week!) and then I share some ideas to keep in mind as you think about those hours. Below, a few suggestions:
TAKE THE TIME TO THINK THROUGH THESE DAYS!
BE REALISTIC
don’t forget transition time, drive time, etc
IF YOU DO HAVE TO WORK, BE VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT YOUR END GOALS ARE and TIME FRAME
SLOT IN RELAXATION AND GET ENOUGH REST
CONSIDER WEEKENDS TIME TO DO INSTALLMENTS OF A BIGGER PROJECT
TALK TO OTHERS BEFORE SETTING YOUR SCHEDULE – GET THEIR INPUT/BUY-IN
TRY TO BALANCE ACTIVE/MORE SOCIAL PERIODS WITH SOME DOWN TIME
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMETHING FUN FOR YOU!
FIGURE OUT THE TIME YOU’RE WILLING TO SPEND ON CHORES (figure out what is really a priority for those times)

I do think that your morning routine after The Incident last month serves you equally as well as your previous morning routine, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger. As for me, I, too, had better take measurements to make sure that I myself don’t slack off from my daily routines.
I didn’t realize that in this podcast, you often create the episodes that you need to hear, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger. But yes, I do think the times between Friday nights and Sunday nights are quite valuable times to get a lot done and the times that I can use to preserve my ability to plan for my days and then execute my plans so that I am functional even without anyone else planning my days for me.
Sarah, I kept thinking about you yesterday. I felt sad thinking about your desire to run Boston and it was bittersweet for me to see how great of an experience everyone had. I hope you’re doing ok and you’re amazing. Much love to you
You are amazing. It’s so hard to pivot, especially from established routines. Please know you contributed to my path to improving my weekends by curbing the “chore sprawl” that has me sometimes looking back Sunday night, trying to find the fun or relaxation.
