I have about 30 minutes before I interview a reality star for BOBW (!), so just popping in with some miscellaneous notes.
I appreciate the suggestions/ thoughts and practical ideas from yesterday. Yesterday evening wasn’t much better, but I ended up being so tired (sleepy) that I passed out (on the couch, waiting for C to come home soccer) before I was able to stew too deeply. There probably is an element of (emotional?) exhaustion at play. I will keep working on it. (Goal is not to be happy all of the time, I recognize that is . . . not a thing! But I also feel like the place where I am now mentally many evenings is . . . not where I want to be, certainly not on a nightly basis.)
(I do not feel like I am in “the deathfield” which was a memorable concept from All Fours — which I didn’t like, but has apparently stuck with me. But sometimes, I am feeling like I am hanging out just a few floors above, and not for any good reason, and I want to get out of there.)
I still dislike packing. We are only going away for 3 days, so I just need ~3 casual outfits, plus 1-2 bathing suits (water park + hotel pool). This shouldn’t be hard, except it always is. (Side note: weather looks hot but beautiful for our trip, so I don’t even have to think about layers except for something to handle the possibility of aggressive air conditioning.)
It is weird not to pack running gear for a trip. AND, I’m actually actively not sad about the lack of pressure to cram in workouts on vacation. Silver lining! (NOT that anyone was making me do that before.)
I have uncertainty about how I will handle all of those signs at rides that warn you not to get on with “heart conditions.” I keep reading mixed things about whether there is any data behind these recs, or if it’s just lawsuit prevention for the parks. I know I don’t even LIKE the most crazy rides (neither do most of the kids!) so those are not even on the table, but what about things that are more middle ground (example: AquaCoaster at Volcano Bay?). Apparently there’s also an issue of magnets potentially setting off the ICD? It’s probably low risk, but I wish I didn’t have to think about this. I will likely err on the side of lying around and reading (we got the reserved seats partially for this purpose!) while the kids go off on the feistier ride adventures with Josh.
A and I went shopping for her bday!! We both had Alo gift cards and we used them (and then some), plus picked out some things at Lululemon. Apparently athleisure is for everyone all the time now — not a bad trend, because at least it’s comfortable stuff that (usually) lasts.

Packing is THE WORST. I always overpack and then still somehow wind up feeling like my clothing choices are inadequate.
Athleisure is a trend I adore. We have a new Alo in the nearby shopping center but I haven’t tried it yet.
We have packing cubes with different colors for each person. It has lowered the stress over packing a LOT. This way we are pulling together the outfits/clothes but not worrying about how they will fit into suitcases until later. It also makes it easier to keep the hotel room from becoming a mess immediately. (It also allows me to pack my stuff before my husband and not have him ready to kill me because he wants to organize the suitcases differently that I am thinking – which I really don’t care about.)
Maybe the change of scene and routine will help? Sometimes even a short disruption to “normal” life can get me out of a funk.
We are away for 8 days and packed planning to do laundry 2x, and then the washing machine at our house swap started leaking! May be buying overpriced Swedish underpants tomorrow.
It looks to me like you can get information about which days the grade schools where you live are off from your consistent records in your planners, which enabled you to plan for this 3-day trip, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger.
I was thinking that when you visit Johns Hopkins Medicine, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger, you will also need to do packing, but then I realized 2 things which I presume are true: a). You’ll only need to pack for yourself, and b). You won’t need to pack running gear.
I also think that by a “reality star”, you mean a reality TV show star. Is that right?
“ athleisure is for everyone all the time” – what is everyone’s opinion on tights that cling to every curve every where
I CANNOT see your ICD outline, lady. And now you’re making me want to go buy a bunch of Alo clothes.
😛
Not having to figure out how to do long runs on vacation or pack running gear is definitely a perk of the non running life!
I can’t wait to hear the reality star BOBW episode!
HAVE FUN! Yes, there is a certain relief in not having to cram workouts into a vacation. You can just… have a vacation. Your outfit is very cute (although I know you said you got a different top) and I cannot see the ICD, even though I enlarged the photo and looked. : )
how do you like Alo compared to lululemon? I’m so intrigued! you look amazing in that outfit!!!
I like both! Alo seems a little ‘trendier’ and Lulu more timeless, maybe?
I recall that you mentioned “meditation” in this week’s BLP episode, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger. I wonder if you’ve meditated in the evening as well.
My understanding, Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger, is that now that you have 14 ideas – time-tracking included – to tackle this pattern of negative feeling on a nightly basis that you’re experiencing, this pattern will not last until this time next month. Now, I haven’t read a lot of your past blog posts yet, which means that I’m not sure if you’ve also experienced this negative feeling at the end of the day for multiple days before The Incident last month. I think I’ll just read your past blog posts.
And yes, I think that some DITL posts can basically substitute for the time-tracking results of the day that this DITL post describes.
Sorry – wrong reply.
