Yes, weekends count too! But I admittedly picked a pretty out-there weekend to include in this time tracking series.
(Although given the amount of travel for me in April/May, maybe this is more typical than atypical?)
Once again, shout out to the Toggl app which made this doable — I know I would have struggled with a less phone-based solution on the road.
Saturday: TRAVEL DAY #1
6:30: Up! (~7.5 hours sleep) + the usual AM stuff (read, plan, Headspace, etc)
7:30: Caroline Girvan #19 – full body. WHEW. The full body ones are always a lot; I increased my weights on several exercises and finished feeling strong but also spent.
8:10: Get G up; breakfast for both of us
8:50: Take G to tennis. While she’s in her group glass, take a walk around the area and meet up with Josh who declared his long run finished after a leg cramp. Walk together for a bit. (Total walk time = 35 min, then hang out and watch G finish her class.)
10:00: Head home and PACK, shower, lunch. (I was apparently texting and distracted during this block, which I noted in Toggl!)
12:00: DRIVE TO GAINESVILLE. (Josh drove ~45 minutes, then I drove two hours, then he drove the last two; I think we had two brief rest stops. DD coffee and munchkins were consumed along the way, plus I wrote a biog post and we listened to a lot of music.)
6:00: Head straight to dinner at Dragonfly (we had been there ~10 years ago when in Gainesville for a wedding and remembered loving it). Put our name on the list (they don’t take reservations on weekends) and walk around the area a bit to stretch cramped legs; we get in after 30 min or so.

8:00: Done with dinner (great sushi) + check in at hotel (Fairfield Inn Gainesville for the win – it was super clean, comfortable, convenient. Method of selecting based on star ratings in the Marriott app for these sorts of things usually works out).
8:35: GR for bed, “text + scroll”
9:15: Read Finding Grace (this book was good AND it made me mad as I read it, kind of an unusual combo)
10:00: SLEEP
Sunday GYM MEET DAY AND TRAVEL DAY #2!
5:30: Woke up on own and headed to hotel lobby to drink coffee + read/plan/etc
6:10: Up to hotel room! Get kids up, shower, get ready
7:00: Hotel breakfast (hardboiled egg + classic Marriott oatmeal topping bar, woohoo!)
7:25: Head to FL State Gymnastics meet and hang out at said meet for the next ~4.5 hours!
A had a mixed day and I would say overall it was not a great meet for her. She didn’t have the best vault (she started there, and it’s not usually her best event) and then I think that sort of spiraled into more nerves than usual on beam + bars; she fell on skills she almost always nails. BUT, she rallied and ended up coming in 1st in her age group on floor (she’s an excellent dancer and floor/beam are her best events).
SO there was disappointment and a gold medal! She finished with a positive attitude overall though (proud of her) and she’s looking forward to starting a new season, as this state meet was basically the culmination of her competition season for the current school year. Now she gets to focus on learning new skills in preparation for next year, which is apparently more fun than doing your current routines over and over again (understandable). Onward + upward!
(I would love to share pix . . maybe she will approve one in the future!)
12:10: Drive to lunch (Panera) and Barnes & Noble so G could get something to read for the way back (note: because it never ends well, we didn’t let the kids have iPads in the car, instead C did an audiobook with headphones and G read books because apparently she did not get the ‘can’t read in car’ gene that I have).
1:40: Start the ~5 hour drive home. Josh drives ~1 hr, then I drive 2, then he finishes with the last 2 (same pattern as before!). Brief rest stops on FL Turnpike.
7:00: Publix stop to grab things for dinner – everyone picks out something super easy (ie: frozen meal, sub, etc)
7:45: Dinner with kids, clean up
8:30: Start bedtime for G, chat with other kids for a bit
9:10: Read in bed – finish Finding Grace. It has a totally wild plot and frustrating characters, but I did enjoy reading it. I cannot decide if I would recommend it or not . . .

10:20: SLEEP
Just one more day left in this series! Again, a bit of a weird week but . . . maybe weird weeks aren’t actually that weird.

I always amazes me you can drive 5 hours and still be … in Florida.
haha you can drive like, 10 and still be in FL!!!
I was so excited to see GAINESVILLE! I live here. I love Dragonfly. My two go-to rolls are the “big boss” and “orenji”
What devices do you use for kids’ audiobooks? My oldest has a phone and uses Libby, but I haven’t found a way for the younger ones to listen apart from using my phone (which I often need for other purposes!).
C has a phone so he just uses that! (I’m assuming iPads also have Libby/audible apps available)!
G doesn’t do audiobooks – she’s generally content to just read!
We use a kids kindle for this and it works well! You can still share Libby library books with them from your phone through the Kindle app.
