May Goals + Mini Reno Photodump

May 3, 2025

MAY IS FULL. There are a lot of things coming up in May, most of them positive (some examples: G’s “Fun Meet”; A’s gymnastics banquet; G’s piano recital; live Peloton yoga class; bday dinner with friends). AND, as has been previously discussed I’m looking to have things be a little less hectic right now. So . . . I did not really set many goals.

new background, as usual from The Everygirl

THIS MAY’S VIBES

  • lot of celebratory things packed in there
  • end-of-year / kid focused
  • some prep for summer
  • wanting to have it feel like taking a breath after many previous consecutive months that felt like a lot.

GOALS:

  • schedule some “walk and talk” phone calls with friends
  • track time + screen time
  • look into something else for A to do over summer (can be low key – volunteering in some fashion would be awesome). Right now she has a bunch of weeks with only late afternoon gymnastics 3x/week.
  • finish planning NH trip! (have a whole scaffold built thanks to the long layover in Dallas — now have to start booking things and making reservations. Apparently that trip is like a month away . . . we almost never do “beginning of summer” travel (we usually do August, but switched it up this year) so it totally snuck up.
  • stay on top of inbox that is now so nice and clear
  • go through summer clothes + swim stuff for self + kids (this might be the most ‘reach goal’ on the list . . .)
  • contact graphic designer and create plan for her to do most of this year’s design work over June + July. I want/need to do revisions of BLPA workbooks, BLP at Home workbooks, and materials for BLP Live! For her, it’s better to get this done over the summer, and honestly having it done then will be great for me, too.
  • start maintenance of certification (MOC4) stuff (or peds/peds endo board cert – my cycle ends Dec 2026 so it’s time
  • shop a little bit! In the market for: one nicer summer dress, white jeans (AYR secret sauce didn’t quite do it for me in white), one pair of shorts (without rips, I feel like I am done w that look for now)

So basically, not a whole lot of ‘extra’ stuff other than mostly fun things.

close but not perfect (mostly gapping in the back, but not wanting other areas to be tighter so did not want to size down). I guess could have considered altering but decided to return.
White jeans recs welcome.
festive airpot dinner @ Pappadeaux (really good food – a bright spot in the 12 hr delay!)

You are already planning summer plans!!! I haven’t planned any holiday so far. Summer camps would be a great option if we have it here until we can travel.
Walk and talk is something that I would love to do if I don’t run.

You would be proud of me – summer is basically totally planned. We have sleepaway camp x 4 weeks, weekend away in the thumb, 2 week family vacation, daughter has a job training the neighbor’s dog and possibly another as a reading tutor, and we have like 5 dog agility events in August. I also made a summer fun list for myself so that when I wake up on a weekend and don’t know what to do, we can pick something off the list. I also expect daughter to practice math and read a few books, but we shall see.

I am jealous you have so much filled in!!! That sounds amazing. I am done except for A. She has 3 weeks of camp and we have a one week fam trip but that leaves 5 weeks of downtime. I almost thought there was a math class that could work (she’s in pre algebra so if she wanted could do algebra in summer and then geo next year?) but can’t seem to find one that works. Might look for something online. It’s not that she needs to be occupied but I just worry she’ll be totally bored.

Next year I want to do 2 weeks off/fam trip like we did in 2023. Will need to bank PTO.

Dylan has been doing khan academy (free!) for years and their pre-algebra and algebra units are great. There are videos that teach them how to the skill before they do problems, and the problem sets are 4-7 problems so more palatable than kumon. She does 2 units a day and I pay her $0.75 for each. It doesn’t occupy much time though. Alternatively there’s Alek’s which costs more (like $180 for a year long algebra course) but is what our school district uses for virtual math. It is also effective. I hope that helps!!

I suspect even with math and dog Dylan will lie around the house a whole lot this summer. Oh well.

Good to know!! Ty! I’m def not opposed to some lying around. Just feel
like 5 straight weeks could get old.

Ours will be lying around for four weeks. I feel your pain.

We have found that finding an activity with a friend is the best. But apparently Washington, DC has the best camps in the country. My 13 yr old is doing video game design one week and two weeks of Washington Wizards basketball camp. We are also going on family vacation for one week and sending him to his grandparents for another week. As an idea, he is having a sleep over camp friend (neither are going this year) come for a week to do the game design camp with him. Then he is going to the friend’s town to do a regular day camp for a week. I figure the other few weeks we have left he can do the insane amount of summer work our school assigns.
Try the Spanx wide leg crop jeans! They come in petite, and white or “chalk”. Totally not see-through! https://spanx.com/products/spanxshape-everywear-cropped-wide-leg-jeans-chalk?variant=48677498650835

I have always had gaping until I found Everlane. Love the cheeky 90s jeans.

Not white but the Gap High Rise Stride Wide Leg Jeans (have them in beach pebble/khaki and an indigo wash) seem to be compliment boosters, who doesn’t love that. The petite is the perfect length for me without hemming and I love the high rise to wear more with fitted tops. I see they have a 90s straight fit in white or an ankle / cropped wide leg. Though it’s worth noting all jeans I get from Gap require a belt…
