Q4: Let’s Just Call It A Restart!

August 23, 2025

WELL THAT WAS A WEEK!

But now it’s over. I signed out to my colleague yesterday, and thankfully didn’t even have to sign out that much (most of the patients from my busy week were already home). We (Josh) dropped our laundry at a local laundromat that does wash ‘n’ fold, so we have a temporary solution for that, and we are going to test drive some RAV4s today (need to try the EV and the hybrid!).

I am behind in all areas of life, from email to desk-clearing to podcast stuff and beyond. I ate like total garbage (what even is protein?). I did some stressing about my heart stuff which probably made my heart stuff worse; I am waiting on some monitor results so maybe that will make me feel better, or at least provide some clarity. I did not read anything of substance. I skipped some workouts (I stand by that decision, sleep is more important and my body felt too tired anyway).

I DID enjoy pre-shopping the full 2026 Hobonichi lineup and I watched some soothing planning-related YouTube videos. ALSO, A came home from acro class super excited — she got her aerial (sideways cartwheel with no hands, essentially)!! So, some good things did happen last week.

ALSO, at least I didn’t jump on Reddit! Apparently I am highly motivated to not pay my kids (note: our current deal until the end of 2025 is that I have to pay each kid $5 from my allowance for the first infraction, and the fees only escalate from there).

UP THIS WEEKEND

  • Josh and I are both off, which is good timing; I suspect he is exhausted too. He did almost all the afternoon driving with our nanny away Weds-Fri and had to deal with the car stuff (getting a rental, having his car towed) on his own while I was at work. We lucked out that he was able to clear his schedule. It could have been so much worse.
  • Miami Beach fam visit, we are overdue (had to stay away because of me being sick + then I was on call)
  • Life cleanup, including finalizing Q4 goals.
  • Podcast prep for Monday
  • A has gymnastics + a bat mitzvah to attend, and C has a soccer clinic. G doesn’t have anything – she’s looking forward to going back to gymnastics or trying tennis but has to wait until the screw is out of her elbow (prob October).
  • RESTTTTT, which will probably involve naps + purposeful couch time with a book. I need this. I started North Woods but I think I might abandon it in favor of What Kind of Paradise (due back sooner anyway). I need to retrain my brain to relax and read because I really haven’t done much of it over the past couple of weeks. I know from prior reading slumps that I can get back into the groove again, I just need to be caught up on sleep and I need a good book.

What are you up to this weekend?

The Rav4 plug in hybrid was what I wanted when I last bought a car, but I was in a similar boat that it was an emergency and the car was not sold in my state. Hope you find what you are looking for!

What Kind of Paradise was a 5 star read for me. I hope you enjoy it! Definitely carve out some rest and reading time this weekend!

What Kind of Paradise was a five star read for me, so here’s hoping that it’s the same for you.

Congrats on surviving call week! Happy Q4

I am envious that the Rav 4 prime is an option for you. It was impossible to find when we were car shopping 2+ years ago due to supply chain issues. Sigh. We waited for almost 2 years and then gave up and got a hybrid which we still like. But 90% of our driving is within the range for the battery so it would have been so perfect for us.

I have heard such great things about What Kind of Paradise. I’m on a lengthy hold list currently. I’ve been reading light romances while on vacation to offset the heavier reads from earlier this month (like The Names which was an excellent 5 star book but so very sad/heavy).

lol we haven’t actually found it, I guess that was optimistic! We are going to use a car broker we used before so maybe he’ll have luck.

North Woods was amazing as an audiobook – I loved it! So if you don’t have the bandwidth for reading it at the moment, maybe try it as audio instead. I looked up What Kind of Paradise and it’s REALLY expensive 🤯 in the UK at present so hopefully the kindle version will come across the pond at some stage!

I replaced my 2007 Prius with a RAV 4 Prime. Most days i drive < 40 miles (school/gym/work/grocery store) and I can go months without buying gas. Uses a regular plug in my garage. Very happy with it

Ahhh I can FEEL your relief that a re-set weekend is here!! Thank goodness you’ll have some space to unwind and relax. I think you should absolutely feel zero concern about skipping some workouts during a crazy week. In the grand scheme, it’s literally no big deal! Glad you chose sleep. And now you can totally do a “do-over” on kicking off Q4 🙂

Congrats on getting through call week!

Can’t wait to hear what you think about What Kind of Paradise. I loved it!

Good luck on your car search! I can’t wait until Subaru has an electric car with a reliability track record. We will be so all over that. I actually kinda want to start e-biking to work. There’s a new pedestrian tunnel that’s opening up so I won’t have to ride on the busy roads or heft my bike over the train tracks. Ofc winter is also a problem, but for 6-8 months of the year it would be great.

I got a ebike battery pack for my ordinary bike, and I was a bit nervous at first, but it’s really given me so much more range. Going to cycle to the train station tomorrow (about 6 miles).

I really loved North Woods. Definitely worth the read. It takes a while to settle in and “see” where the book is going, and then it’s magic. But I get tackling what’s due soonest too!

I have recommended North Woods to so many of my reader friends. Several said it’s really hard to get into, which I vaguely remember but it’s SO GOOD that I don’t remember anything negative. Also, it’s set in Western MA/Berkshires. The setting felt similar to Hopkins Forest so even though it has nothing to do with Williams, it made me feel for nostalgic for the environment of the place, if that makes sense.
But I get needing something lighter now. I just recommend coming back to it at a better time!

yes! I did like it. Just not as propulsive after first ~70 pg. I will go back to it, though. Interestingly setting-wise What Kind of Paradise also super interesting to me bc it’s in Montana outside of Bozeman where we’ve been a few times now.

North Woods was sloooow for me and What Kind of Paradise is great! Good decision!

If you get the rav4 prime, get roof bars installed at the dealer. The roof box makes the car a really decent trip car.

We have a plug in hybrid Volvo and I LOVE it. It is absolutely perfect for my life of driving to work (in range) and lots of driving kids around. We have had it for a couple years and I have literally never filled the tank; I think my husband has a couple times a year.

Reset sounds wonderful after a stressful week. A book about paradise? Exactly it’s needed now, for me too. Hope you find the cat asap.

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger August 24, 2025 at 11:10 am

well, the book is definitely not actually about paradise 🙂
