The rest of my friends trip went so well! We had our final dinner at my house — we cooked beef picadillo + made Old Cubans, and then got takeout (Cuban cuisine) for the rest of dinner.

OTHER BACK TO SCHOOL NEWS:
C started cross country (school team sport) with his first preseason practice today! XC isn’t something he’s done before but he does run a mile or so with Josh fairly regularly. He is using it mostly for fitness and to train for his other (ball) sports in the winter/spring seasons, and I am excited to cheer him on. (FL kids are tough, they ran at 3:30 pm today, it was HOTTTTT and humid. Understandably, I think there was some walking).
Girls got into the dance classes they wanted. Which means between dance and gymnastics (A is continuing on the Xcel track), we have something every single weeknight until 8-9 pm. I am . . . happy for her, a little sad for me (lol). I guess I just really thought there would be fewer late nights without soccer (and there will be for C) but . . . nope!
I’m glad A loves dance so much; I know it’s a good thing overall. ALSO, Josh does most of the late night pickups, and if not often our nanny can do it — but I still feel very much . . . on call/responsible. Thankfully, dance/gym are SO CLOSE to the house (really ~7 min) which makes this doable; you can literally leave at ~8:52 for a 9 pm pickup and be home by 9:10. I don’t know of anyone who could carpool but I might ask the community listserv!
Back to school admin is mostly done? I think? I haven’t seen A/C’s class schedules yet but assume they are on the way (and we already got their placements etc). A bought herself a backpack as she wasn’t “due” for one. Everyone has cute new shoes. Uniforms have arrived and everyone has at least SOMETHING that fits to wear the first day. I have one medical form to have signed (it’s an over-the-counter med form that needs a physician signature and I am very tempted to sign it myself).
An ARRAY of socks for each kid are also on the way, to each one’s specifications.
This year feels much MUCH better than last year, when I plunged from book deadline to a call week to vacation to back-to-school (hated this plan). I think we’ll stick with our June travel schedule for the foreseeable future!!

Why wouldn’t you sign the form yourself? Is there an ethical issue involved?
Yes just not sure if they would question it. I am officially qualified, that is definitely true!
I still have to fill out my least favorite form: The Parent Auth. for Deviation from Name. So I can exercise my parental right for William to be called Will. Oh, Florida (facepalm).
Ha! I haven’t actually seen that form (I guess private schools don’t make you fill it out). That is funny.
Those forms are evil. They are a device in the name of “parental rights” designed to make trans kids’ lives harder.
That probably is the purpose of the form 🙁 sad and unfair.
We have exactly one month until school starts, but I’m heaving a sigh of relief just from reading this post because it’s so cathartic to my soul to think about back to school routines and I’m just so, so glad things have been smoother for you in terms of the transition and getting ready. Timing really CAN be everything!
Sign that form! I always had Matt sign the medical forms. Way easier than dealing with the doctor’s office
We are back one week from tomorrow, and are still on holiday. Back late Sunday, and might slightly regret this choice but I think I want to squeeze every day out of these fun summer days. Uniforms are prepped, and slightly disappointingly, no school supplies are required. I’m going to do a grocery delivery order the Monday we are back and call it a day. My one shining moment though… I got a gift for the birthday party the first weekend back. Just need to wrap it and have my kid write a card.
Sign the form!!! 100% that is what you should do as a physician parent.
We are still about a month out from BTS but I might do the supply shopping today between doctor appts (I’m off today since I stacked 3!). I don’t think Paul cares enough to come with me. I also need Will to pick a backpack out but he keeps changing his mind!
Okay if YOU as an Enneagram 1 feels I can sign the form . . . this means a lot 🙂 I signed it, put my license number on it, and sent it in. Hopefully it won’t get rejected. I am sure I’m not the only dr parent at the school (and at least I’m actually board certified in peds). (For the record I did have them do official physicals / sports clearances at the PCP, this is just a form saying they can take, say, OTC Tylenol according to package directions.)
This is 100% within your authority!!
My daughter (same age as Annabel) has been begging to be able to do her own gel manicures and I have been reluctant for many reasons. Doing it on press-on nails rather than directly on her own nails hadn’t occurred to me! This might be a win – definitely something for me to investigate.
I have actually let her do some salon gel manis (on occasion) but I also prefer this option!!!
Love that you rock the Birkenstocks to lift weights at the gym. I like barefoot but probably wouldn’t do that in public lol and this is next best!
Yep I do bare feet at home but figured that would not work in public!
You are ready! I like that one thing on your list is socks- yes, have lots and lots of socks. Makes life much easier.
Oof- those late nights. But you have lots of drivers and I’m sure it will work once you get in the routine of it. I’m getting excited about BTS!
