I was in such a happy mood yesterday — I got to start my day a little later (I think a pair of siblings must have cancelled?) which was a TREAT, and then the rest of my clinical day was steady and really good overall. I saw one patient I’ve followed since 2013 for his last visit before he heads off to COLLEGE which felt really special.
(That wasn’t actually his last visit with me since we tend to follow patients for a year or so into college, but it was still exciting and felt meaningful.)
AND, Josh texted me midmorning to see if I wanted to do a postwork dinner out (ie, impromptu date night), so that was fun!
(A’s fracture = no acro class = no 8 pm pickup = relative Friday freedom!)

We were only gone ~7:30-9 but it felt so nice to cap off the week like that. A babysat and we were back in time to put them (well really G) to bed.
Today so far has included:
- sleeping in until 6:50 (my alarm was set for 7 but the sun woke me up 10 minutes in advance)
- the usual G 9 AM tennis (this will stop over the summer, but it’s been an enjoyable way to start the weekend – she has her lesson and I take a 30-40 min walk and watch her before and after). This time C came along to shoot baskets at the courts next to tennis. OH and today my walk was unintentionally screen/audio/media free because I forgot my phone!
- A gym drop off/pick up – again only an hour vs the usual 3.5 due to her injury. During the ~40 min at home I managed to squeeze in a Peloton full body strength workout (my membership is cancelled but still runs until 6/4 so figured might as well use it today!)
Aaaaaand I’m about to bring G to C’s soccer game to watch the end because apparently there are popsicles being handed out (it’s the last game) and she wants to try to get one. Ha.
After THAT C has a bday party followed by a guitar lesson. I guess today is relatively . . . full. Years ago I kind of realized this is what weekends are going to look like with 3 kids in various activities and decided I might as well just accept and lean into it, and honestly I think that’s gone well. (Admittedly things felt slightly LESS crazy this year — even with all of that! — because there was no travel soccer. Everything is relative!).
I think I am someone who likes my calendar FULL and my spaces EMPTY. (What does THAT mean when it comes to this Gretchen Rubin dichotomy?)
(EXCEPT I paradoxically don’t like my vacations too full!)
Final note: We are more than halfway through May when I took on this “blog every single day challenge” and I know there have definitely been more random ‘hey, this is what we’re doing posts’. I have enjoyed writing them, so maybe more of those to come. If nothing else it will be fun to look back 10 years from now and remember what everyday life was like in this particular phase.

Great milestone when you can get out for dinner without a paid babysitter!! Another one is when they can drive – we sometimes have our son drop us off at restaurant so we can have a few drinks and then Uber home. 😊
My son has his last precollege visit with his Endocrinologist coming up. His first visit with her was in 2012!
Stitches on your forehead? What happened?!
I had basal cell skin cancer removed last week (MOHS surgery). Thankfully all out. And will wear hats in addition to sunscreen from now on …
Your impromptu date night sounds awesome! I look forward to that stage!
Our weekends are quite full but I prefer it that way. The less downtime/less we are in the house, the better. We have 2 social gatherings this weekend and our youngest has a bday party tomorrow.
I was up at 5:30 today which is so annoying as I am overtired from a delayed flight that got me home at midnight on Thursday. I thought I’d have some quiet time, but Will was up a few minutes later and then Paul was down at 5:40. I think it’s going to be a long day…
Yay for impromptu dates! I’m not sure I buy the Gretchen Rubin dichotomy philosophy… I kind of like everything in the space in between. Waking up spontaneously with the sun is the absolute best. We are in my favorite time of the year when the sun rises at 5:30 and sets after 9. My only sadness is how short this part of the year is. Happy Saturday!
