5 on a Friday: Long Weekend Eve Edition

September 4, 2026

1- OBSESSED with one of my ‘musical picks’ for the week: Tiny Habits. (Yes, it’s an odd name for a band, but I sort of love that too). They remind me of my college a capella group for whatever reason! They are touring and I would loooove to make one of the dates work but I’m not sure it’s in the cards as fall is pretty packed already.

latest album is Keepers and now I want to see what they’ve done previously

(SOOO wish they were coming to FL! We are often left out of this kind of tour, sadly. Maybe too out of the way, or different music is more popular here? Not sure.)

2- Loved this week’s episode of the Reframe featuring one of my all-time favorites, Jodi Wellman! The conversation made me smile. I would love to go to a dinner party with both of these ladies (K + J, can we make it happen!?)

3- I PACKED THE NIGHT BEFORE. It’s a miracle! I hate packing, everyone. I tend to leave it until the last minute (which actually DOES help minimize the time spent on this particular task as I have to crazily throw things into a bag). The reason behind this is that there is some phenomenon in which every time I have to travel, I hate all of my clothing.

This time I just said “fine, you hate it, but you still have to wear it” and calmly packed it. AND G followed a packing list I gave her (AI-generated and tweaked by me) and did a great job (new milestone, I always had to pack for her).

Looking forward to a fun weekend with friends. Also I find the weather report somewhat amusing:

temperature range over the entire weekend: 3 degrees!!!!!
let’s hope that rain is patchy (in FL it almost always is; periods of sun + intermittent storms.
Will embrace the coziness . . . sunny mornings I hope and afternoon naps while it rains sound rather lovely

4- I recommend buying offensively bright scrubs. I got like 20 positive comments yesterday (wore my Rapid Response Pink) and it seemed to brighten everyone’s day.

I’m thinking that bright orange is a gap in my scrub rainbow that may need to be filled prior to Halloween. Creamsicle vs Fireside . . .

5- We have been much more ‘screen light’ with the kids these days and it has been a very good thing. We banned weekday TV/recreational screen use unless the family is watching something together. We’re sticking with our usual ‘don’t even think about it until the afternoon’ policy on weekends. G/C took a break from video games, which they NEEDED after the summer we had.

(A is not mentioned here because she really does not struggle from screen overuse at this time; generally, she is too busy for that to happen. Which is great.)

((And I have to say I’ve been pretty good about avoiding scroll-fests as of late, too. Hopefully I can keep this up! I’ve been doing some reflecting on what truly MATTERS re: screen metrics. It ISN’T minutes, though I used to pay a lot of attention to that, I don’t anymore. To me it’s more about: a) are screens impacting my presence in life — interruptions caused by myself or others and b) am I using them excessively as numbing/escape or in an otherwise unhealthy way. I guess this could be a more detailed post next week!))

HAPPY FRIDAY, everyone.

Ooh- that podcast sounds good. I’m going to check it out.
Have fun in the keys! Yes, the weather sounds… um, Florida-ish? For September at least. I hope you get your sunny mornings and afternoon rains!

I think you’re a dark autumn so both colors would look nice on you. I totally relate to feeling like I have nothing to wear on vacation. I think it’s because normally I dress really casually (e.g., cutoffs or joggers and a t-shirt) at home — and that’s normal around here — but when I go on vacation I have this impression that there is an expectation that I look fancy. I definitely feel like I have gotten “looks” for instance when checking into a nice hotel, but maybe I am imagining that. Anyway… not planning on doing anything about that so oh well.
