Weezer/Shins concert on a weeknight: CHECK! And during a call week, no less. (I swapped the night coverage for next Tuesday thanks to a flexible colleague!).
We were out until 11 (!) and the show was a lot of fun. I thought the Shins sounded better than Weezer, and truthfully upon reflecting (well, as best as I could in the 1000 decibel environment) they are the band that is closer to my heart! I loved Weezer in the 1990s, but was SUPER into the Shins all the way through the 00s.
Look, 2011 me really wanted to see the Shins (!), and they made it onto this vintage “faves” list. They also earned a coveted spot on my iPod nano in 2008 (aww, the nano!). I am happy to let 2011 SHU know that I made it to most of the acts on this wishlist over the past 15 years:

Everything else: ✅!
Anyway, it was fun! I was definitely brought back to two distinct eras: high school me with the Weezer Blue Album in my CD player (I probably got it from Columbia House or BMG!) and 2008-2012 me. THAT particular era was defined by: residency, Josh working WAY too hard, running injuries, and infertility, interspersed with great local music and Durham/Chapel hill restaurants. FUN TIMES!
I am glad we went and I have “Island in the Sun” in my head right now.

Silversun Pickups also performed but I didn’t really know that band and we arrived pretty much as their set was ending.
This particular stadium is close by (easy 20 min drive) with straightforward parking, so that was good! We were home by 11:15.
Back on call this morning and definitely a liiiiiittle tired but not too bad!

Fun! I’m loving dates that are adult fun in this age of parenting. Impressive on a Tues (and call week) too!
