I felt really triumphant about my recent solo parenting weekend, so one might think a lovely weekend in which both Josh and I were off would be easy peasy (lemon squeezy!), right?
MEH.
On the positive side, we celebrated Cameron’s birthday at Chuck E Cheese’s and lived to tell the tale. It was actually fine and less chaotic than one might think because we did the early option where you get the entire place to yourselves. The only obnoxious part was that they had a ‘show’ featuring an animatronic Chuck E that Cameron was very not into (he was basically hiding behind me the whole time) and the store staff laughed off my repeated requests to just end it and move on to cake.
Oh well. At least the cake we brought was delicious and C got a fairly reasonable number of presents (ie not an entire mountain of plastic @*($@(#).
Also positive: I tried my first Orange Theory type workout, but not at the actual Orange Theory itself – we have a local non-chain place called Ellen’s Ultimate Workout that is essentially the same thing but with other class options in addition to the “Ultimate” OTF-style workout (they have barre, yoga, spin) and I decided to give it a shot.
It was essentially cardio intervals alternating with strength moves, with the cardio on various machines (treadmill, versa-climber, rower, XC skier). The strength moves were similar to what I was used to in my Beachbody workouts. I liked it and decided to sign up for a month to see if I want to incorporate those kinds of workouts regularly. (I may actually do the same thing with actual Orange Theory and Burn Boot Camp too in the future to see which I like best!).
Josh and I also went to a great concert Saturday night.
Writing all this, I am not sure why the weekend had a blah feeling to it, but it did despite all of those positive things. Josh went to a much-anticipated (for him) guitar meetup on Sunday and honestly I was in NO MOOD to solo parent again for those 5 hours, so . . . maybe that was part of it. Also, G did not take good naps, particularly Saturday. It was one of those weekends that, when Monday came around, I skipped out to work feeling relieved.
You win some, you lose some. I am sure next one will be better!
(And now, off to my first 5:30 AM Ultimate workout. I am oddly excited about it!)

Does anyone remember Showbiz? I loved Chuck E Cheese as a kid but the Showbiz show terrified me. I still haven’t taken the kids to Chuck E Cheese but I guess I need to, if only for nostalgia’s sake! When I feel meh about an otherwise good weekend, it usually means that I’m coming down with a cold. Hopefully that’s not the case for you!
Camille is terrified of the electronic Chuck-E-Cheese. 🙂
