5 on a Weekend

October 9, 2021

Of course I got a migraine Thursday. (Because I announced how happy I was not to have had any this month yet? Perhaps!).

So – in lieu of 5 on a Friday, here’s your 5 on a Weekend!

1- Fall Fabulousness Episode

Every year I look forward to the Girls Next Door Fall Extravaganza! This year’s version did not disappoint.

2- Polarizing and negative news

I thought this Freakonomics episode was excellent (and very timely given the current conversations around social media).

3- Mini Halloween Preview

paging Dr Viva

4- Screen time report: Met my under 100 goal 7/8 days of the month so far!

5- Considering ordering these Madewell jeans:

They have a petite version which is promising . . .

Because as much as I’d like to just wear my Vuori joggers every non-work day, I probably could use some other options. My jeans from last fall are not currently comfortable AND ALSO Gen Z says they are no longer cool (though I wouldn’t care, if they felt good on). Probably should order at least 2 sizes to try on. I will report back.

I just finished this workout so I am feeling rather accomplished for the day already. The rest of today’s plans will involve gymnastics (A&G), takeout sushi, and more reading of Hour of the Witch (good October read so far!).

I deleted all of my au pair and nanny related groups on Facebook, because we no longer need either, for now, and it’s toxic, and I could see that the rest of my feed was sponsored crap and ads. What a waste! Fortunately I never really “got” Instagram. Hoping I can make better use of this massive time black hole.

Hi OMDG! I used to enjoy reading your blog (and of course this one too!) But now your blog says for approved uses only…is there a way to become an approved reader or do you prefer to leave it private (which us totally cool…just thought I would ask!).

I was wondering the same thing 🙂

Yes, me too! Esp since I went to law school at Michigan and I always love the A2 backdrop.

Me three! I’ve been reading your blog for many years. Thank you for so many thought-provoking posts. I recall that you’re how I found Sarah’s blog (which is also wonderful!

Bummer about the migraine. I hope you can get insurance to cover the med your doc recommended? I think you were working on getting it approved.

Viva’s costume is so cute! Our 3.5yo wants to be a Dino again so he will wear the same costume again! And his little brother will wear big brother’s hedgehog costume. So no money spent on costumes!! Yay! Thinking I need to get some halloweeen decorations. The toddler loves seeing others decorations so I should probably put a little effort in!

I will have to listen to that freakonomics episode. I have such a love hate relationship with social media. I love staying connected with far away friends and family; I have being inundated with opinions – even ones I agree with!! – and the comparison trap. I’m due for a social media break so will probably take November off.

I didn’t get it approved BUT I got a copay card so I can get it very cheaply for the next 3 months. Then will have to figure out whether I try a cheaper alternative. I don’t know why my PCP went for the ‘Cadillac’ med before trying the Toyota but it does seem to help though does not entirely erase the headache.

Have you seen a neurologist to talk about all this? Might be worth it especially if the new med is not being covered and not really doing the job fully.

Also I’m sure you are fine but several times when I’ve reported a big increase in migraines, I’ve been sent for imaging to be safe. Not sure if that’s the case for you or not although I sort of got that impression from your writing. Just something to think about!

No neuro, but I am getting some imaging done next month. And yes, would consider neuro in future if needed!

If only I could find hot pink scrubs for adults…

Figs sometimes has hot pink scrubs! But I think they sell out pretty quickly when they do.

This week’s FB/ Insta/ whatsapp failure was just the nudge i needed to think about how often I found myself mindlessly reaching for something to scroll. I’ve decided to let their absence sit with me for a while and see how I feel. (Not whatsapp- I use that to keep in touch with my mom’s group and in-laws abroad, but I am thinking there might be other options…)
I do find myself missing my FB groups and the sense of community I found there, so I wish there was an alternative to that. I did realize, though, that in some of these groups there is a fine line between supportive and unintentionally toxic.
