Goals life Reading

October!

October 1, 2021

YES, a new month. And I have higher hopes for this one.

(PowerSheets monthly list taped into my EC Life Planner yet again.)

Our local case rates are coming down.

The month contains only one call weekend for Josh, and none for me.

We have a date night and a mini-getaway planned.

AND, our weather is starting to be a tiny bit less oppressive (though not truly nice – we need another 6 weeks or so for that).

My goals for the month are essentially to work on the issues laid out in my 100 days post, with some specific work related goals added in. AND, I am moving into my Full Focus Planner (affiliate link; code for 10% off is SARAHFALL10) for the last 13 weeks of the year, and I’m honestly quite excited about that. I plan to dedicate some time tonight to the move-in process.

The FFP is very conducive to time blocking, prioritizing, and generally acting intentionally so I think this will be a really nice way to finish out the year. I was thinking about it, and if I were not planning on moving fully into my Cousin for 2022, I would consider doing a combo of FFP + Weeks. Would be a very functional pairing.

(But my Cousin cover is soooo pretty; I am dying to use it!)

I have zero buyers remorse. I love all of the above.

Today:

❏ Run outside

❏ Help kids get ready / shower

❏ Lead morning report for residents (chief in on well-deserved break)

❏ Go through work task list – get key things done, clean out “waiting/follow up” folder + clinical inbox

❏ Meetings x 4 (subspecialty rotation meeting, an interview, provider meeting, and peds endo team meeting)

❏ PM: Kids’ movie night (maybe something Halloween themed, since it is October? BUT nothing too scary because G will be watching and A is averse to all gore? Recs welcome).

❏ PM: Unplugged night for me – will plan out weekend, work on planner move-in as noted above, and read more of Normal People which so far seems just “pretty good”, but since it is so beloved maybe it will get even better as continue

Normal People was a solid 3 stars for me, too. 🙂

Normal People is perhaps the only book that I have enjoyed more when I re-read it AFTER watching its on-screen adaptation. Rooney’s writing is definitely an acquired taste – for me, having the visuals from the Hulu miniseries in mind made it easier to follow and enjoy the book. And the miniseries is just really really great, even if you end up not loving the book!

      Amy, I agree with you

Scooby doo movies are enjoyed by my 8 yr old and have no gore and no overly sophisticated themes!

My kids (8&5) love when we do Halloween movies in the fall: Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, Nightmare Before Christmas, Alvin and the Chipmunks Frankenstein episode, Casper the Friendly Ghost (cartoon episodes) were all watched last year. They love Scooby Doo too. They like the idea of Ghostbusters but I don’t know if that’s too much for them still. Maybe I’ll see if I can find the old cartoon series first before showing them the movie.

Yes to Hocus Pocus and Nightmare Before Christmas! Another nice one for littles is Hotel Transylvania.

The Addams Family movie that came out in 2019 (cartoon) is great!

We are huge fans of all three Hotel Transylvania movies! I really liked Normal People, both the book and the tv show, but I do think Sally Rooney is not for everybody.

Definitely watch Hocus Pocus! Halloweentown is cute. I also am a sucker for the Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin.

Room on the Broom is a short show we plan on checking out! I’ve heard great things (and we adore the book).

4 meetings in one day. Bleh. And on a Friday! I have a low tolerance for meetings!

I really liked Normal People but did NOT enjoy Conversations with Friends. I wish I had abandoned it.

Hocus Pocus! It’s a favorite at our house. Rated PG.

I love all Sally Rooney (just finished her new one!) but I can see how she’s not for everyone…

Somthing more G-geared is Spookley the Square Pumpkin on Netflix. We don’t do scary stuff here yet either.

On October 8 the new muppets haunted mansion special comes out.

I know it’s too late, but I HAVE to weigh in with a vote for Coco as a movie option! It’s one of my favorite ever, and even more so this time of year.
