And so it begins . . .
My call week starts today. I am going to try my best to not flail out into a stress spiral.
Quite honestly, It’s going to be challenging.
Josh and I have a complex patchwork of childcare coverage over the next two weeks (actually, this week is more complex; next week when he is on I am basically covering). And OF COURSE our babysitter for Thursday (day we both have to work + no camp) has COVID. (She is clinically doing well, but I suppose I cannot have her babysit. For a minute I still considered it.)
On the positive side, camp is still open! IF we are lucky, this will provide 8a-3p childcare this Tues-Weds and next Mon-Weds. But I will consider every day this actually happens a win. Next Tues-Weds are days that I am not actually working and was sooooo looking forward to the childcare, so I would be mildly devastated to have them taken away. But I guess I would also survive. P E R S P E C T I V E . . .
Call week self-care plan:
Keep workouts more minimal this week so that I don’t have to get up as early
Eat healthier for the love of god (it’s been a carb/sugar fest around here)
Do other things to prevent scrolling as default activity – read Apples Never Fall and work on setting up 2022 planner(s) for relaxation instead. Even watch YouTube perhaps.
Try to get as much sleep as possible
That’s it.

I really hope the next fortnight goes by with as few hiccups as possible, Sarah. Thank you for all of your posts this year. I don’t always comment but I read every single post, they are a highlight of my day. Seasons greetings to you and yours!
Good luck with all the patchwork of childcare; hope call is as light as is humanly possible and you emerge on the other side none the worse for wear!
I’m not on call after hours but am the only provider in our small primary care clinic this week and covering for my colleagues so definitely feeling this! Mainly telling myself it’s ok to be stressed because it is stressful but also hoping to manage a few positive coping strategies.
We can do it!
« (She is clinically doing well, but I suppose I cannot have her babysit. For a minute I still considered it.) » ??? From a doctor, last part is very weird to read… You are still contagious even if you are « well ». Isolation is how you protect others.
Tongue in cheek, but I was trying to communicate the desperation I feel regarding childcare right now. I regret planning to take call while our nanny was away, during a pandemic. It was a mistake. I wish Josh had the whole week off.
Can you find some one else? Both my kids are home due to COVID in their schools and it’s bad enough with my husband and I both here to trade off and my work being less urgent. Maybe care.com?
the plot thickens and i can get into it tomorrow, but due to even further complication . . .no. probably can’t get anyone willing to sit for us right now!
GI bug? For some reason my mind went straight to GI bug. 😆
no, close COVID contacts and URI symptoms. i give up.
I personally laughed out loud at that sentence, Sarah! Obviously you’d never leave your kiddos with someone who was sick-the desperation can be so real!
Random – Are you still having giveaways for your other planners you’ve reviewed this year? Also, I hear you about the childcare situation. I hope you get those days off + childcare next week! What a wonderful present to yourself.
Ugh, that is such a bummer about your childcare falling through. This is when it’s really tough to not live close to family that can help. We are in the same situation although we do not have call and have way more flexibility in our jobs so we can cover gaps in coverage. But covid just makes everything extra extra tricky. I hope things go smoothly and camp can still go on!
Just finished Apples Never Fall. It’s a page turner, definitely would keep your interest.
Thank you for writing and writing and staying here. Sometimes your posts are the glue holding things together so things don’t go smash.
TikTok is better for relaxation than you tube. There I said it. It actually works really really well. 🙂
