5 on a Friday: Fall Fun

October 7, 2022

1- FALL IS HERE because the annual Fall Extravaganza ep from Girl Next Door Podcast just dropped!

I enjoy this every year, and 2022 had me laughing out loud (on my run . . in the dark . . I may have looked insane) during the guess-the-candle-scent segment.

Find the ep here or in any podcast app!

2- I am going into this weekend with intention. We do not yet have a plan for Sunday, but we *will* make one. Also, I am going to try for a more formalized family meeting. A recent BOBW recording led me to the realization that we need to up our family communication game. So, family meeting it is! I’m thinking . . . Saturday afternoon?

There will be an agenda. There will be group brainstorming. There will probably be snacks. Wish us luck.

3- I need new running shoes. I am always torn between supporting our local running store vs just replacing my shoes MUCH cheaper by buying the old model. Below: Asics Gel Nimbus 23. I have been been wearing this series of shoes for a looooong time now.

4- Working on my Halloween costume. I think I am going to go this route.

5- I just received a message that my Vote-by-Mail ballot is on its way! I think I will submit via mail this time because (confession) I ended up missing the primary. I don’t want any last minute issues to get in the way of casting my vote!

A reminder to either sign up to receive a mail-in ballet (if there’s still time on your area) OR make sure election day is on your calendar — or better yet, slot in an actual time to vote!

Those shoes are cute!! I wore mizunos for many years and then the pair I bought this past summer hurt my feet sooo badly so I switched to Hokas and I love them! My running shoes used to cost around $70-80. Now they are $120-130! But from a cost/use they are not expensive.

I hope you guys have a better weekend. I am waiting to board my 8:30 flight home so will probably be home around 10:30-11. I had a client meeting at 5 on a Friday which is the absolute worst time slot for a meeting but oh well. They did seem to appreciate that I stayed around for the meeting, especially after hearing I have young kids. Hopefully I am not too tired this weekend. It’s not good to go into a weekend of parenting feeling so depleted….

Also take a look at the Saucony Endorphin line. I switch off between the Speeds for regular runs and the Pros (just slightly lighter) for hard workouts.

Except, oops. For some reason I thought you were asking for suggestions for other shoes to try. If you’ve got a sytle that works, carry on!

I admit I want to try some carbon plated shoes at some point! Just totally curious if it would make a difference with my extremely non elite self ….

It definitely makes a difference. Not like a 2 min/mile difference but maybe a 10-15 sec/mile difference. I really, really like those shoes.

Oops… at first I thought you were asking for shoe suggestions since you’ve worn yours for a long time. Definitely don’t fix something that isn’t broken!

Thank you for reminding people to vote! People should also check for early voting in person in their area, if interested. It’s already started where I am, and it’s much quicker and easier than election day voting.

I am the same on the Local ‘ Running Shop versus the order the same online for a lower price. I’ve been running so long in the same shoes that i am getting FOMO similarly about what’s out there – including the new super shoes. But my husband gave me stink eye about that and in that dry way he was like ‘You haven’t been injured in forever, why would you bother changing?’ So, fine. I got my repeat for like the 25th time the Asics GT 2000’s. But there are other shoes and colours, and cushioning, etc. Maybe next pair.
Though, you could always have a second pair to rotate between (I track my shoe mileage on Garmin Connect – but you can do lots of ways, if you’re in to that) so you can try a new shoe while still having the old reliable …
