T-1 DAY

December 20, 2022

Like everyone else, I finished White Lotus.

I don’t remember such hype around Season 1, but I loved that too. No spoilers, but OMG I enjoyed it so much!

I feel good about my 2023 goal to watch more TV. Haha. Next up: S2 of Sex Lives of College Girls, and then what? Maybe Abbott Elementary or Emily in Paris. (Recs are welcome!)

Arctic Blast 2022

OF COURSE our trip coincides with an epic arctic blast making headlines! BUT, I’m trying to look on the bright side: no one in our family is sick (for now, anyway) and after Thursday the temperatures get much more reasonable, with our last 2 days looking great!

I am hoping to move one day of lessons if they allow me to do so. We will see!

Last Day of Work 2022

Today is my last clinic! Yesterday was super busy but the office felt festive and honesty working wasn’t so bad; I don’t mind having one last full today today since I have 2 full weeks off to look forward to.

I will be setting away messages today and I’m excited to take a break from the ol’ EPIC inbox. It admittedly feels amazing not to have GME work and availability expectations hanging over my head, and I should be able to be truly off from a podcasting standpoint too — I have two last minute ads to record today and otherwise everything is in the production queue through early January. I am sure I will still be posting here because how else will I save our arctic adventure for posterity!? But I’m happy to say that the pipeline is largely cleared out and I feel ready for some rest + relaxation.

(Running = I plan on taking a break this week! I will bring some running gear just in case as there is a gym where we are staying, but generally plan on taking a major cutback. Then I will be ready to ramp it up to hopefully finish my half marathon training strong Jan – Feb!).

From experience I would NOT try to ski in those frigid temps so you don’t have miserable kids! Have fun, weather looks great later on!!

I have heard terrible things about Emily in Paris. You’ve probably watched anything I would recommend, but just in case- Ted Lasso, The Good Place, … For something different, Great British Bake Off.

I have terrible things to say about Emily in Paris but I still watch it all :-). The Good Place is an A+ recommendation too

Oh that forecast is not too bad overall! That one day is horrible but the rest should be pretty tolerable. We are getting awful weather here, too. 6″ of snow tomorrow and then horrible wind that will create windchills of -45! It makes me wonder why we live here! 😛 But it will warm up after Christmas. I can tolerate 10F and above. When it’s colder than that, I struggle. I hope you guys have an amazing getaway together!

I don’t love Emily in Paris but have watched it because I am a Francophile and love seeing the backdrop of Paris and the fashion. I echo Jessica’s comment of Great British Bake Off. That should is AMAZING!! It is so heart warming and wonderful. The earlier seasons are better than recent seasons IMO, but all seasons are great. We have been watching the latest season of the Crown which I love!!

I’m loving the Vow on HBO. Its a docuseries about a cult and it’s SO entertaining to see how seemingly normal people get sucked into these things. Highly recommend!

I watched this while I had Covid this summer! My brain could only handle cult documentaries 😂

Season 2 has now been released- very good as it covers the trial! Love a good cult doco.

Yay! So glad you’re getting a much needed break, and from so many of your regular requirements. I’m also working this week and it’s rough but I also have a two week break on the horizon and looking forward to that is helping. I hope the trip is super fun! Enjoy!

How great to have 2 full weeks off!! I tend to save up my vacation days for big long chunks off at other times in the year, because we do not like to travel during the busy crowded holiday season!! But sometimes I do wish that I had a longer stretch off over the holidays, even just to enjoy at home. It’s a trade off though because I also don’t want to short change myself at another time of year. I get a lot of vacation time, but still, have to ration it out! 🙂 Have a wonderful time and I hope the weather pans out to be okay. I’d personally plan on Thursday being a lazy, cozy ski lodge day!! 😉

I really wish we had a longer winter break for schools. It’s just two weeks and I’d like a few days into January to just hang out, but I realise lots of people don’t travel and are anxious to get their children back to school.

But teachers are on strike for 2 days in mid Jan so we will get “bonus” time then.

Definitely Abbott Elementary and The Bear

Abbott Elementary is heartwarming and wonderful!

We had an ‘arctic blast’ in London about a week ago, meaning about -5°C so just below freezing. It made me weirdly anxious (probably too much attention paid to headlines) but then my phone served up a documentary about a family living in Siberia. Their 9-year-old son could skip school if it got below -55°C but other than that they just got on with it… That put things into perspective! 😃 I hope you’ll have a wonderful time.
