1- Here come the “Top 10” lists! YESSSS. Totally listening to Bob Boilen’s favorites list on the way home. (Side note? My kids agreed to a ‘project’ of listening to all of Taylor Swift’s albums in chronologic order on our morning school commute, which I am doing 4/5 days most weeks. She sounds like such a kid in her 2006 album . . . because it was released when she was 16!!! OMG!!!!)
2- This ParentData podcast/newsletter (I read rather than listened) – interview with Yael Schonbrun + Jessica Grose. I read Yael’s book and really enjoyed it.
3- Next week is our Annual Goal Setting Workshop on Patreon, so if you’re interested – join us! It’s one hour long and a dedicated space for you to think through 2023 in the (virtual) company of others. I love leading it and can’t wait to plan along with you!
4- It has been kind of a long week and nothing is going to calm down until . . . well, until we are in Montana, basically. Mostly it has been good things. Also we have bought 0 Hanukkah gifts.
(This is not due to poor planning. This is willful neglect because I am . . really not that excited to buy my kids things when they so obviously have so much already. Thankfully I have outsourced this to Josh who tends to be more of an underbuyer and you know what? Whatever happens will be fine. I don’t think they will be traumatized. Worst possible case: grab (or print!) some gift cards and go with a “WE GET TO SHOP WITH YOU! YAY!” vibe.)
5- I really want to record a video to go with the Planner Stack ep of BLP that releases Monday but I’m not sure if it will happen. After thinking about all kinds of fancy ways to do it . . . maybe I could just record via Zoom and dump in on YouTube? LoFi would be better than non-existent, right?
Random pic: Last night, celebrating Josh’s birthday after C’s soccer game. We got home at 9 pm and it felt like midnight.

Is he wearing a Dutch shirt? That’s adorable! I’m from the Netherlands and recognized it.
Yes that’s his team!
We were all rooting for the Netherlands in the penalty shootout in the World Cup tonight but it wasn’t to be. I was at a big Christmas party/dinner and it was weird how for about 10 minutes so many people were glued to their phones watching it play out but about 30 seconds delayed! A sort of weird group experience.
Yes, ski gear is a gift AND yes to LoFi video 🙂
I am with you on not feeling motivated to buy more STUFF! Ski gear definitely counts as a gift. My kids get a new hat and mittens/gloves most years. Is it their favorite gift, probably not but I am okay with that.
We are really focusing on giving to others this holiday season. I am also really resisting the urge to think it won’t look like enough under the tree. There will be 9 people in my house on Christmas morning. It will look like plenty!
I am here for ski gear as a gift.
we are also skiing in Montana at Hanukkah this year! I never want more “stuff”, so my hannukah gift list looks like this: pajamas, pajamas, slippers, books, games, tshirt/sweatshirt, tzedakah nights (their choice of charity), and a “big” gift which they already got at home.
Oh wow! If you see me (look for the Floridians who have no idea what they are doing in cold weather…) come say hi!!
I am giving both of my kids ski gear for Hanukkah. Perfectly acceptable!
It may be a little late for this year since it looks like they’re wearing them 🙂 but ski clothes can ABSOLUTELY be holiday presents! I got new ski bibs one year as a way to surprise me that our family was going skiing and it is still one of my very favorite presents I ever got!
Thanks for rooting for NL 🙂 and 2x yes on the ski gear and the LoFi YT dump!
Ooof, I am mostly done, just need to stop into Muji when I am in London for little notepads for my son. And some socks for my husband.
Annoyingly we are snowed in so our weekend plans got cancelled, guess we are doing some house projects.
Totally acceptable on the ski gear. We definitely will buy stuff our kid needs as a holiday or bday gift, often something a bit nicer than I would have bought in the normal course of things to make it a little more special. I’m pretty sure at least one member of my extended family is appalled, but oh, well!
I live in Montana, so have to buy ski gear in October to make sure they have jackets, mittens, boots for cold weather and we rent our season ski leases when our local ski hill opens in November (so not really gifts) .. but I think the equivalent would be snorkel gear, new swimsuits, etc for a beach vacation. And I think yes, those could absolutely be gifts that kids are delighted by! Also have fun at Big Sky! My boyfriend used to ski patrol there and I always enjoyed skiing there.
