2020 redux

January 17, 2023

Turns out I do have influenza A. And also COVID, because why get just one virus?! This is efficiency at its finest.

I’m doing somewhat better today and wondering if the two viruses are tiring each other out?!

I am home doing telehealth with a runny-nosed 5 year old (COVID neg thus far and thus presumably flu positive) glued to Grimm’s Fairy Tales on Netflix.

It feels A LOT like 2020 and let me just say I have ZERO nostalgia for those times.

On the plus side, I watched all of Season 2 of Sex Lives of College Girls and several episodes of Abbott Elementary and am taking further suggestions.

so good

Okay back to telehealth.

    Highly recommend Trying and Catastrophe

Oooh Catastrophe! I think I watched one or two seasons of that? I should finish it.
      Trying I will check out!

Oh my gosh I am so sorry to hear that! Have you watched Bad Sisters? Or Forever, which came out in 2018 I think but stars Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph and is completely captivating and weird?

Hope your recovery goes smoothly and speedily.

      Bad sisters was the best!

    I love Derry Girls!

I second Derry girls! It’s so good.

So sorry to hear it! We have had a nasty non-Covid, non-flu virus that the kids weathered fine but for me, turned into pneumonia and a week in bed. Here’s hoping your Covid/flu combo is an easier road!

For shows, if you haven’t watched I’m Sorry (not sure where it’s streaming – maybe HBO or Netflix) starring Andrea Savage, it’s absolutely hilarious.

    Feel better soon!

Omg! Both viruses, how awful. Feel better soon!!
I second Bad Sisters – LOVED it! Did you ever watch Severance? Also a great one!

  • Reply Keren January 17, 2023 at 11:32 am

Get well soon! is it worse to get both viruses simultaneously? Or feels like regular flu?
I liked watching The Wedding Season on Disney +

thankfully feels like a normal sickness. obviously still sucks but thankfully i am doing okay (maybe thanks to prior immunity + vaccinations)

I watched Friends From College on Netflix when I had the stomach bug a few weeks ago. I usually don’t like shows like that and I actually had no strong desire to finish watching it when I was feeling better. But I really enjoyed it at the time! I hope you are feeling better soon

I also really enjoyed Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ and Derry Girls on Netflix. I hope you are on the mend soon.

Ugh, a double whammy! Knock on wood, I have never had influenza! And we have been healthy lately but Sept-Nov were horrible, especially when the toddler and I got RSV in October (well, I presume I got it – the doctor warned me I could and I got leveled the following week with a horrible respiratory virus). I hope you turn the corner fast! This is your 3rd time with Covid, right? I’ve only had it twice but was so sick for 10-12 days. Not dangerously sick, but I felt awful and in hindsight I should have gotten paxlovid since I’m immune compromised. I hope I don’t get covid again but it seems likely that I will…

Yep, round 3. To compare them all, honestly #2 was the worst (July 2022). The positive COVID honestly felt like such a surprise and was very faintly pos yesterday and I can’t see any line today. Annabel had a huge flu A outbreak in her class so I know where that came from. I am definitely getting better (no longer having fevers!). Hoping to run tomorrow. We will see how that goes . . .

Oh no! I am so sorry, Sarah. And two at once. Ugh!!!

This one is kinda out there, but my favourite show last winter – when it was dark and cold where I live, admittedly – was the new PBS All Creatures series. It was just…pleasant. Funny at times and very comforting for winter watching…

Oh no, what bad luck! My son’s school had a scarlet fever outbreak.

Three Pines on Prime was amazing, quiet, thoughtful, delightful and interesting characters, I watch very little tv and this was a hit for me.

    Poor Sarah! That sounds wretched.

    Another vote for Bad Sisters.

Have you watched The Good Place? I have heard it’s good and wanted your expert input as well.

    • Reply Omdg January 17, 2023 at 4:13 pm

Forgot to add – I saw Triangle of Sadness on the plane to Costa Rica and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Oh also: Only Murders in the Building. Season 2 is out. 🙂

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger January 17, 2023 at 6:18 pm

I watched several episodes of the Good Place on the plane and I LOVED it. It’s one of my father’s favorite shows too (!) . . I should watch it. And bad sisters.

Thankfully doing a lot better today. Viral cesspool!

My infant and I had influenza A just before Christmas and I had it for the following 2.5 weeks. I’m sorry you have both! What a rough year/season for sicknesses.

I recommend Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Netflix, and also Get Organized with The Home Edit (also Netflix). Sometimes they drive me bananas—I’m a librarian, and rainbow order is not a helpful way to organize books—but it is mostly satisfying. I also love Clea and Joanna’s friendship and seeing celebrities homes (they do a celebrity home and a non-celebrity home in each episode).

    • Reply Sarah Hart-Unger January 17, 2023 at 6:19 pm

oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED crazy ex girlfriend. honestly I would almost . . .watch it all over again. Annabel and I love to watch Home Edit together!

OMG I’m soooo sorry! Feels like everyone in DC has one or the other. On the upside, time to do your homework for me :)?

  • Reply Marie January 17, 2023 at 7:40 pm

Hope you feel better soon! I’d echo Three Pines and All Creatures Great and Small for shows to watch.

  • Reply Sidra January 17, 2023 at 8:29 pm

    I also loved Three Pines!

  • Reply Coco January 17, 2023 at 10:32 pm

sorry to hear double virus!!! you sound chill though. Hope for fast recovery.

  • Reply Gwinne January 18, 2023 at 7:19 am

Oh no! I hope you’re feeling better soon. I second or third completing good place which stays good throughout the whole series. If you haven’t watched community that’s also excellent. Younger has come up and comment threads before and I would highly recommend. Also Bunheads which feature Sutton Foster

Oh my gosh I hope you feel better quickly!! We are binging The Handmaid’s Tale right now. Not sure if you’ve already seen it but a great watch! Dark and disturbing but great.
