1- Kae, inspired by Laura, also inspired me . . .
I’m going to do time tracking, today until Friday 5/5 (2 weeks). And I will share some days in the life here. I will also include screen time totals because I think it will be interesting. Admittedly I am sure I will probably feel motivated to adjust my habits if I know I will be sharing them but perhaps that will wear off by the end of a 14 day period.
I will continue to use the analog method of just writing basically what I’m doing in my daily notebook.
2- I finished Romantic Comedy yesterday evening. I ended up REALLY liking it. Possibly my favorite book of the year so far!? And I started this, which came in the mail:
I actually forgot that I preordered and also reserved from the library!! (Don’t worry, I cancelled that hold as soon as I realized so someone else can get it.) It’s very fun when a preorder takes me by surprise . . . like someone gave me a gift. Even if ‘someone’ was me.
3- Remember when I thought G’s ballet costume was going to be a purple bell bottom getup?? They changed it!!!
4- Elisabeth mentioned summer planning struggles in her post today. It’s tough when you can’t lock things down – it’s so many weeks! I need to fill in my Essential Calendar (I am an affiliate; code BESTLAIDPLANS = 10% off) to get my bearings and see the summer as a whole.
I know I still have 2-3 weeks to fill in our camp spreadsheet. C is being indecisive . . . soccer camp vs lacrosse (? new possible sport) vs school day camp. And I have one lone week for G . . . though another option is just having her do daily swim lessons or something.
5- Good luck to my fellow South FL runner JENNY who is tackling an ULTRA this weekend! I would LOVE to do one someday so I am really enjoying watching her journey. I will be thinking of her as I run my (comparatively SHORT) long run on Saturday!

G looks like the sweetest thing ever in that costume! The cuteness is almost too much to bear <3
I'm so excited to read Life in Five Senses; I'm #1 on the holds list at the library, so it should be in soon!
I’m only 20 pages in, but so far I like it! She just has a great writing voice.
Awww, G looks darling! I’m so glad they pivoted from that other outfit!
We took the easy way out this year and just put our son in the public school summer program. I started to look at camps but it sounded so overwhelming and the start times would not work for us, even with their “before care” options. A lot of the camps seemed to start at 9:30. I don’t know who can accommodate that kind of schedule? It doesn’t seem like it would work for working parents? Luckily the public school program has great hours – 7-6:30 I think. We need care to start at 7am since we ideally are at work at 7:30. They do weekly field trips and have lots of activity options so hopefully it’s novel enough for him? But he’s used to being at the same place M-F 52 weeks of the year, so it should be fine. When he’s older he’ll probably hear more about camps and might inquire about doing something but I think that’s a ways off for him. hopefully!
I feel like those programs are only for parents with flexible schedules or full time childcare. We are able to do them but our nanny will be doing more driving during the summer than she usually does during the year! School camps are the best for little kids – easy and plenty stimulating enough!!!
Oh my goodness, that outfit is SO cute! I feel the same way about pre-orders — just like a surprise gift! And books are definitely the best gifts. I hope you live Five Senses — it sounds wonderful.
The summer planning is so stressful! I was complaining to Elisabeth how I still have a whole empty month. I suppose I need to figure it out. Sometimes I wish I were more a seat-of-the-pants kind of person who can do fun and spontaneous things… but, alas, I am not.
I also finished Romantic Comedy this week and loved it! If you haven’t read Nora Goes Off Script add that one to your list for the future. Same vibe (romance novels with women who are 30+). As a 50 yr old, I find I can only read so many romances about 20 somethings. 🙂
I don’t know how people manage summer in the states – in the UK summer holidays are 6 weeks long, basically mid July to end August. Right now the kids are in year round nursery but when they are a bit older we will definitely do summer camps here – they’re usually for 4 weeks. There are lots of “half term” breaks of a week or so throughout the year which is hard, but summer in the US seems LONG for working parents.
One year I was hired to arrange a family’s summer camp schedule and I loved the challenge – it was one of my favourite spreadsheets. I can see why they hired a college student to do all their applications, and scheduling – at the time I thought it was easy money but now I can see it was definite value all around.
our summers are definitely longer!! more like 10 weeks here. but thankfully there are (in most areas) a lot of camp options. in our area many of the camps are flexible and allow 1 week at at a time so you can patch together different experiences. ABSOLUTEtly requires a spreadsheet . . .
Thanks again for the tip about the Essential Calendar and the discount code!!
of course!! I totally want to fill mine out this weekend!
Sarah, you live close enough that you could do this race next year. They also have a half marathon at the same event if you want to do that instead. I’ll include all the info in my race recap!
Would DEFINITELY consider!!!
