WOW. Cool weather in June? I AM VERY INTO THIS.
I survived the turbulence, finished 98% of my book, and we are settled in Evanston.
Today we are planning on some classic Chicago tourism (bean, we are coming for you). There may be a hot dog or 2. Or deep dish pizza? Hmm.
We are here for a big family celebration (Josh’s uncle’s 75th bday!) but arrived a day early to visit some friends from med school. We played mini golf and ate really good ice cream, and our kids got along so well! They have a 7 + 8 year old, and G especially loved her older wiser friend.
I went for an early-ish run in truly heavenly temperatures (I took the pic above on the run) and Josh is running now. About to take the kids down to hotel breakfast before our tourism extravaganza begins, and then a large influx of Josh’s family (his mother’s side) will descend upon the area.
So far, our travel has been easy and I continue to feel we are over the hump of tougher kid travel and it’s only getting better by the season. Hopefully I will still feel that way by the end of this 4 day weekend 🙂
(And then on Monday, the kids start day camps at three different locations. Dance camp / gymnastics camp / soccer camp!!!! In my defense, two of them are literally across a parking lot from one another. But still.)

We’ve had deliciously cool temps in the morning lately. A week ago it was a completely different story. You never know what to expect from the weather in the Midwest! Enjoy your time in Chicago. It is one of my favorite cities. I spend a lot of time there since I seem to travel to our Chicago office every other month. Plus I’m hiring a direct report that will be in Chicago or Minneapolis so if the person is in Chicago, I imagine I’ll be there at least every other month if not more often. But I don’t mind as it’s a super easy trip and a delightful city to visit. I always stay at the same place so know where to get coffee in the morning, where to get dinner, I have a 4 mile running route along the river/lake, etc. So it’s by far the easiest kind of work trip I do!
Ha, it’s all in your perspective, right? I was at my son’s baseball tournament very close by you yesterday and was both freezing cold and angry that it’s June and I was freezing cold! We expect to have to deal with this in the fall and spring but I’d love to spend an evening outside without needing a winter hat!
Hahaha. I’m outside right now and am a bit shocked at how cold I am. Amazing running weather .. but hanging out weather less so! I’m annoyed I didn’t bring my down jacket!
We moved away from Chicago and I still miss the food. I’d suggest Portillo’s if you can swing it – hot dogs are good (and cheese fries) but the Chop salad is my favorite there. And a big vote for pizza – deep dish or not it will likely be good 🙂
Enjoy your time there!
I almost ran my space heater yesterday! I love cooler weather.
No no, this weather in June is not okay!! We had a big stretch of very HOT weather earlier this month, and now it’s been very cool this last week or so. I am very annoyed. We get enough cold the rest of the year. But it’s supposed to heat back up this weekend- we have predicted highs in the 80s Sat/Sun and highs in the 90s by the end of the week! Did you guys rent a car, or how are you getting around?
Welcome to Chicago! I am enjoying the weather too.
Um, this mid June Chicago weather is NOT normal! Our pool was closed today (too cold 😪). Summer in Chicago IS amazing but it is usually not this chilly!
Enjoy your time in the Chicago area! My daughter is a rising junior at a college in Chicago, and I regularly stay in Evanston when I am up to visit. I love Evanston, particularly the walkability of the town plus the ability to quickly run to the lake and run through the lakeside parks in the morning. Go see the Bean – it never gets old. Be sure to see the art exhibits within the park too, if you are able.
I second the suggestion for portillos!
Ooh, you were in my hometown (well, technically I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, but went to college in Evanston!) I know they had cool weather up there- your runs must have been AMAZING!
they felt SOOOOO nice. And then promptly back to our summer swampiness!!!! though today was not TOO bad (72F and 95% humidity is now . . . kind of decent)
I can’t find the post (I know it’s recent) where you said Laura said to imagine shaking in jello but that throw-away comment stuck with me – would you consider doing a question on BOBW about that so we can hear more? I’m a very nervous flyer (specifically to do with turbulence) and would love to hear from both of you on the topic.
