Fitness Travel Weekend

Chicago 2023

June 18, 2023

Lots of family time, 2 beautiful runs outside, deep dish pizza x 2, and one flat tire. Oh well.

@ Giordano’s (I know, it’s a chain. It was still delicious!)
While Josh changed the flat tire, lol. We ended up returning the rental car and using Uber. Hopefully we won’t get charged a zillion dollars but it is what it is.

We had two lovely big family dinners to celebrate Josh’s uncle. The kids were honestly super easy for the most part, thanks to a) cousins and b) some art supplies and legos thoughtfully supplied by Josh’s aunt! We were out until after 10 pm last night and 2/3 are still sleeping right now.

This morning, Josh and I are tag teaming our workouts and then we will pack up, go to a family brunch, and then fly home. IF flights are on time we will arrive home around 10pm Eastern. Tomorrow WILL be rough (all 3 kids have camp; Josh and I have work) but it will work out.

Happy weekend!

Workout Report, Travel Edition

M: 8 mi @ 9:38/mi (woke up to late to run with my usual group!)

T: 8.39 mi – 3 mi warmup, 8 x 1 min @ 5K pace with 2 min recovery jogs between each, 2 mi cooldown. Overall pace 9:39/mi; 5K intervals between 6:48/mi and 7:35/mi. This was a fun run (and yes I wore my AlphaFlys. They really do help.) + 20 min full body workout (Rad Lopez)

W: 7 mi treadmill hill workout: 3 mi warmup outside @ 10:28/mi, 4 mi on treadmill – 12 x 1 minute hills @ 4-6% incline and 6.3-7mph.

R: Rest day! (Flew to Chicago)

F: Run in Evanston #1 – 6 mi @ 9:40/mi, much of it by the lake

S: Run in Evanston #2 – 6 mi @ 9:07/mi, neighborhoods/lake

S: Will be 5 mi on treadmill + weights

Total miles – 40 / Strength x 2. No long run this week – this was per plan since I was traveling! Kind of nice to have a down week although I am not looking forward to leaving these temperatures (FAR) behind.

What a fun weekend! That is a late return tonight! Everyone will sleep well on Monday night for sure! I look forward to the stage where traveling with kids is mostly enjoyable. That’s only a couple of years off for us, though!
