1- I’m very very late to this party:
. . . but what a great party it was! Apparently it may be a Netflix movie or series at some point – which would be really fun to watch. I really enjoyed this, and read it in about 5 days. I’ve read most of TJR’s books by this point and somehow had skipped this one, which many feel is her best. I am torn between this one or Malibu RIsing — though I think this one might win.
2- I did a lot of planning today, and it feels good. I generally don’t have to plan more than 1-2 weeks in advance for either podcast, but with a long trip on the horizon I wanted to create space to truly take a break, and that has meant a bit more strategy and forward thinking. Today I wrote about 4 outlines PLUS finished up the slides our our (4th and final) Digital Detox installment. BLP / BOBW topics are pretty set until September, though of course I’m always taking questions and topic suggestions are welcome!
I put on my monthly calendar all of the upcoming BLP/BOBW eps plus the dates they will be recorded — there is about a 6 day lead time minimum for processing, but I can turn them in early too (and that makes the sound team happy!). I feel . . . good. Like I can now start to think about other future endeavors!
Here’s a very tiny cryptic sneak peak (Pink = BLP; Green = BOBW and I’m keeping that under wraps because I have no idea if Laura would want me to share!).
On the topic of feeling “done”, I do feel pretty done right now. I made a checklist and attacked it. That seems good enough.
3- Gearing up for a “kids home from camp” weekend, really our last because rather abruptly after their next homecoming we will be flying diagonally across the country. Love this recent camp pic:
4- THE BARBIE MOVIE IS OUT! I admit I’ve been sort of waiting for it and totally want to go. I think it’s more for A than the other 2 kids though. Maybe we will see it on our trip (and J/G/C could see something else . . .).
5- Decluttering progress: I finished the bathroom and am onto my books! I can honestly say every cosmetic item that still lives in the bathroom is something I actually use (unless it’s Josh’s, of course) and the drawers make it very easy to see where inventory is lacking (or overflowing, as the case may be — guess I won’t have to buy hair elastics for a while).
This tiny-bit-at-a-time approach feels manageable and dare I say . . . slightly fun? After books I will move onto the area with the kids’ backpacks. The momentum is good.

I’m curious if you are quitting something or quilting something on 8/15, lol 🙂
I love TJR as well. I think Daisy Jones is my favorite – I listened to it, and they had different voice actors for all the different characters, which was really fun.
Actually it is quilting but it refers to the guest! Will leave it at that …
Nice! I think this summer weekday camp is such a good idea!
We got home late last night, and my son was like a drunken lad, making besties with our Uber driver. We are both off today, T is happy to be reunited with his toys, and somehow I’ve managed to tidy up the kitchen cupboards fully, capitalising on the fact that we haven’t been grocery shopping. Made my meal plan, grocery list, caught up on admin, gave notice to landlady in work city, etc. I assume I’ll crash sometime this afternoon (going to nip into library for the next Louise Penny that’s waiting for me) but for now, I’ll make the most of the post-holiday energy.
I just started The School for Good Mothers, and it is so good! It’s probably a bit more dark and twisted than your usual, but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway.
I’m so impressed with your decluttering. I find it kind of emotional and have to be in a good place to get started but it always feels amazing when I’m done. Thanks for the nudge to try again.
FYI, re: Barbie- I haven’t seen it yet but a friend just saw it and said it is “definitely PG-13” and “not for kids”. So maybe check into that…
Oh, never mind- I just noticed that you linked to the common sense media page, so you clearly are aware 🙂
I think A could handle it. The other two, nope.
I’m bummed to hear this because I was really hoping I could take my 8 year old. She would love the pinkness of it all
Have you seen this about the TJR books?

ooh that’s so cool! I definitely noticed Mick Riva thoughout. Love her universe and wonder if she will add to it. . .
