See You On the Flip Side . . .

July 29, 2023

Headed off!

We are off to a great start except my carry-on-only luggage plan backfired as our Target carryons were too big for Air Canada’s standards – ha! (They checked them for us at the gate, so that worked out fine). I will have to test them out on an American Airlines flight sometime . . .

ANYWAY. Our flight is on time, we all had a super early Earl of Sandwich dinner, and I am soooo happy to be embarking on this adventure!

I might be a bit spotty in posting – we will see. Will do it if/when it fits in!

Workouts (19 weeks until race)

M: Run with J – 7 mi @ 9:08/mi ave

T: 9.25 mi total – 8 mi then 6 x 30 second hard (~6:50-7:20 pace), 9:57/mi ave. Strength session @ PT (lower body – split squats, calfs, step ups, etc)

W: TM hills –> 8.4 mi total // 3 outside warmup, 5.38 on TM. 6 x 3min hills @ 4-5% grade, 6.3-4mph, then 30 second mini HARD hills at 5% / 7.5-8 mph

R: 7 mi easy @ 9:55/mi. Light rain and NO lightning – a rare treat!

F: 6.5 mi total (0.5 outside, then I saw lightning and went to the TM!), ~10:10/mi ave. 20 min full body weights (Jermaine Johnson)

S: 15 mi LR, 10:00/mi, took it relaxed – it was hotttt

S: will be a rest day

Total = 53.2 mi // 2 x strength (~40 min total, so not a ton).

I did the calorie tracking thing using MyFitnessPal for about a week but I am definitely not going to do it on vac . . . just will try to keep the lessons I learned in mind and eat in a generally balanced way. I want to get home from vacation feeling refreshed and I know being mindful of eating decently most of the time (getting protein / not overloading on sugar + alcohol + etc) will help me accomplish that. (There WILL be ice cream, however. Non-negotiable.)

I am also soooo looking forward to running on vacation — both to enjoy running in cool temperatures (really – CANNOT WAIT, it’s been so unpleasant here), and to see the Vancouver scenery. I’m cautiously optimistic for cruise boat running (treadmill or track). And hopefully getting in some strength in small doses too – we will see.

    Have a great trip. I love running on vacation – it’s such a great way to explore a new place. (Also, sorry about the luggage – that’s a bummer. You’d think they’re all standardized.)

    Have a great time! If it’s the Made By Design carryons, they are fine for American. I haven’t tried it with extender unzipped, though. Usually I park with the extender unzipped and then smash it down and zip the extender closed.
