The Good Old Saturday Routine

September 2, 2023

I missed this!

A & G are still doing 10 am Saturday gymnastics. I wasn’t entirely sure this would happen but it did! I did not register C this year because a) he wasn’t as into it and b) he is going to have soccer conflicts fairly often.

But, here we are again. I kind of love this routine. Typically Saturdays are my long run (today = 16 mi, went really well) but I’m still done in plenty of time to shower / eat and then drive the ~10 min from our house. THEN I can park at one of the tables with my tired legs and do a little work: write a post, finish any undone weekly review stuff, etc.

Today as you can see in the background I will be tackling the textbook revisions for BLPA – which is 75% full after yesterday’s Fall 2023 launch! Super excited for this round as I feel like every time I do it I learn more and thing are smoother + even more fun.

I am seriously excited about this long weekend, especially since it means I get to start the week with a podcast day rather than a clinical day — definitely less jarring and more peaceful. I did at one point consider moving my clinical days to Tues / Weds / Fri or something but hated the idea of arriving to an overpacked inbox every Tuesday. PLUS it might not even be feasible — Tuesdays there are more providers in the location where I work and there probably isn’t really room for me anyway!

So M/W/F it stays and I generally like it, but Monday holidays are pretty great for me (they take up PTO days but it’s worth it!).

Time Tracking

I think it might be time for one of my intermittent periods of time tracking (which, as a bonus, might reveal patterns re: migraines). I just searched my own blog for time tracking and August / fall is definitely a common season for me to delve into this (2022 + 2016!).

Laura is also hosting a formal time tracking challenge later this month (details here).

I started yesterday with my usual analog format in a Stalogy notebook that conveniently has the hours in tiny subtle numbers down the left hand side. Will pay special attention to SLEEP . . .

WEEKEND

Things I want to do:

  • watch the Org365 fall Planning Day and think about which home organization I want to prioritize and potentially what I could outsource (to kids / nanny / someone I heard recommended in the neighborhood)
  • make muffins
  • get 8+ hours sleep Sat + Sunday nights!
  • FT family
  • help kids with library holds (I am going to take them to Barnes + Noble, let them get a book, and also have them write down other books that look good so I can build a strategic holds list)
  • date night!
  • Sept YNAB

Sounds like a great weekend! I have “make muffins” on my list this week as well. Do you have favorite recipes? I have all the Run Fast cookbooks and will probably choose one or two of those but always open to new ideas. I’m running a marathon next Sunday (!!!) and muffins would be easy and nourishing. I’m loving following along with your marathon journey as well. You are on track for an amazing race!

I listened to planning day last weekend and feel like it’s always helpful for approaching the next 4 months. I think your planning methods and Lisa’s mesh so well even though they aren’t exactly the same. I would be interested to know what you get out of this planning day if you choose to share on the blog or podcast!

I bought stuff to make superhero muffins so I’m planning on those! Hopefully today.
NEXT SUNDAY – AHHHHH! Which race? I’m going to need a race report!!!

Love Superhero muffins! I’m doing Tunnel Light marathon outside of Seattle. I’ve heard the course is amazing—it’s a gradual downhill with 2-3% grade and temps are expected to start in the 40s. That will be a welcome change from a super hot summer in Austin. I’ll let you know how it goes!

It’s funny because I wrote this question from my phone where the can looked impossibly skinny and tall. Now on my computer, it looks can sized. Haha. I would still like to know. 🙂
