7 weeks until JAX marathon
But you know what? The events of this week make me care less about any individual race and more about just being glad I can run at all. It may turn out that Tuesday’s accident won’t have much impact on my training cycle, but at this point I am not sure since I am definitely not totally feeling back to baseline again. Either way, I feel confident that eventually I will get there. Here is the most dramatic weekly workout report ever. I am also going to share a pic of my leg at the bottom – if you prefer to avoid, skip this post or don’t scroll down 🙂
M: 10 mi with group, 9:28/mi. I was super excited about 70F weather!
T: Speedwork day and it was even cooler – 60F!!!! This was such an awesome workout for me. 3 mi warmup @ 9:25/mi, then 3 x 4 minutes (0.54-0.55 mi) @ 7:10, 7:21, and 7:12/mi with 3 min jog between each. Then, 8 x 1 min @ 6:38 – 7:05/mi. Overall it was 9.18 mi @ 8:53/mi average. I was so excited about my progress. I followed it up with 20 min strength for runners + 10 min barre, and then this happened.
W: REST for obvious reasons
R: REST
F: REST
S: Woke up in less pain and ran 4.18 mi @ 9:47/mi average. This wasn’t a comfortable experience but it just felt like superficial bruises being pounded (ie unpleasant but not unbearable).
S: 7 mi @ 10:15/mi average – honestly felt a little more painful, probably because the day before I had some NSAIDS/acetominophen still on board. Still superficial/soft tissue pain. I also had more back muscle pain that made taking deep breaths in feel more difficult. SOOO, not 100% back – maybe like 60%. Hopefully things will continue to improve.
So there we have it. 30 miles / strength x 1 / a major setback, but one I am grateful wasn’t worse. Hoping for an even more positive report next week but will try not to rush.

Oof all of that bruising looks painful! But I am glad that you are feeling better overall. What a week you had!!
Oh my goodness – that bruising… sending you lots of good healing and resting energy.
Ouch! Still feeling so glad you are ok. Sending you healing energy!
WOW, that is one hell of a bruise! I once had something similar after a bicycle accident — it took me weeks just to walk normally!! And days before I could even wear something “tight” like jeans.
It’s hard to balance the need for rest with the desire to train for your goal… Stay safe!
Dramatic event shifts our perspective and makes us appreciate little things we have. You are definitely going to recover and fast back stronger and faster, with extra appreciation to running. When we were hiking up the mountain, simple things like one step at the time, not sliding down too much, not falling became our only objectives, other problems faded away and that feeling is still clear.
Love this ❤️
Okay, this is good news! You still have plenty of time before the marathon, but like you said, things like this make you realize one individual race isn’t THAT important- there are other marathons you could run. But I’ll bet you’ll be just fine for JAX!
Oh damn, your leg looks like one big bruise. But I am so glad you’re feeling better.
