Weekly Workouts

November 26, 2023

I am very much looking forward to Monday (it has been a tough week!) but it’s been decent from a fitness standpoint. As I discussed I’ve moved on to my ‘recovery period’ even though I didn’t actually do my goal race! My knee/leg is continuing to slowly improve. And I have a new cross-training tool:

home gym!

Yes. I finally succumbed to the Peloton hype. I had always said I’d get one if I got injured so . . here we are. It’s a rental though so maybe not a permanent addition. We will see! Josh is dealing with a muscle strain (and he is supposed to run the marathon in 2 weeks!) so getting the bike ended up being pretty good timing for him, too.

M: 45 min yoga + 2 mi walk

T: 4.08 mi @ 9:53/mi

W: 5 mi @ 9:25/mi. Some pain creeping in around 4.5 mi in . . .

R: Peloton Strength: Callie’s 3-day split day #2 — chest/shoulders/tri (30 min)

F: 4 mi @ 9:38/mi. I labeled this “mostly okay” so I guess there was some pain.

S: 4 mi @ 9:08/mi. Felt SO good on this one! But quit while ahead.

S: 20 min beginner bike ride with Hannah Corbin!! My first ever ride. Then a 10 min Taylor Swift cooldown. AND Callie’s 3-day split day #3 — 30 min legs/core. (I did do day 1, but apparently it was on Sunday. I was actually sore from that for DAYS.)

It’s too soon for a real verdict on the Peloton, but I think I like it as a cross-training agent! My HR really got up there — I worried about this as some runners said their legs gave out before HR was up — this was NOT a problem for me at all. I was in the 160s for lots of the ride, just like a moderate run. Very cool to get this cardiovascular benefit without much impact. (My knee did not hurt at all though my beginner ride did not take me out of the saddle).

TOTAL: 17 mi running / 30 min bike / 2 x strength / yoga x 1

LOOK at how balanced I am when not marathon training. Ha!

Didn’t even know you could rent a peloton. Cool. Is there an option to keep and purchase if you love it?

Yes! Prorated purchase price. Renting is $90/month and includes the app.

Curious to hear how you like the peloton! I always had such a hard time making myself work hard on the indoor bike trainer, I’ve been really reluctant to invest in a peloton, but maybe with the interactive program it would be more engaging for me? Maybe we’ll make a triathlete of you yet. 😉

The swim is a hard no 😂 cannot fathom. I am a terrible swimmer! I can generally stay alive but that’s it.

That’s a pretty sweet home gym! We have some similar basement space and it feels so nice to have the dedicated space.

The prior owners of the house built a narrow addition w a gym floor specifically for table tennis. It was one of the selling points of the house to have the extra indoor space. Our yard is smaller but that’s ok! No basements in FL!

We love our Peloton! For a more structured training on it, check out the Discover Your Power Zones program. I did DYPZ and BYPZ and then starting doing PZ challenges with the PZPack and it’s been so great for my fitness (plus I love having a schedule to follow)

Do you ever get scared running right next to the big window if you’re using the TM during a big thunderstorm?? 😅 Not sure why my brain went there, but it did. lol.

I would totally be scared and would wait until active part of storm passed but Josh prob would not! I also will not let my kids take baths or shower w lightning. Lot of lightning fears …
