PHL Photodump + Weekly Workouts

December 24, 2023
hanging out w Miriam (my sister’s daughter / their cousin!) – she is turning 4 in January and is sooooo cuuuuuuuute
G slept over in M’s room at my sister’s house!!
making gingerbread @ Laura’s house!
my mom making pizza . . .
my dad + the finished product (2 more not shown)
this pairing was very sweet
wide leg AYR jeans (secret sauce) + wet hair (pre-hem)

This is our 3rd day in PHL – we fly home tomorrow, early. It has been a totally chillllllll time which is what I wanted. Lots of just hanging with family, watching movies, etc. I am really glad we came because the family time is precious, and also at home I would felt pressure to organize and feel productive. And this was probably nice for Josh to be able to deal with call and nothing else for a few days.

ALSO! It’s just so nice to experience a tiny bit of winter! The seasons passing without any true winter weather still doesn’t feel quite right to me. SO this was great. Would do it again (and probably will).

Have a very merry Christmas if you are celebrating!

Weekly Workouts: The “I’m Finally Close to Normal” Edition

M: Group run! 6.26 mi @ 9:25/mi ave, perfect 60F weather!

T: Easy run, 52F!!! 5.65 @ 9:31/mi ave + 20 min glutes/legs strength (Callie)

W: 12 mi @ 9:29/mi ave, 60s temps. First longish run in a long time and no significant/lasting knee pain

R: 60 min cycling: 30 min Santa’s Werk-Shop ride (Cody) + 30 min Disney Holiday Ride (Emma) – 16 mi total

F: REST (travel day)

S: 6.04 @ 9:08/mi. 35ish degrees! HILLS bc there are no flat areas near my parents’ house!

S: 6.07 @ 9:19/mi. 45 degrees.

I have to say I felt better on the hills around here than other recent times I’ve visited, so that’s good. Might just be the ideal temperatures though.

Totals 36 mi / 16 mi cycle / strength x 1 (ummm it was a travel week)

I’m glad you are having a great getaway! I bet your sister is loving having some playmates/entertainers for M! That is one of the best parts of seeing my family – my nieces and nephews are so good with my kids and it gives me a break. Although M is getting to a sweet spot with her almost being 4. Your parents are so cute! I don’t know if I’ve seen pictures of them before!

Oh that is lovely! The cousin time is so so fun. T doesn’t have any cousins close in age (I’m an only child, my husband’s half brother is 15 years older so his kids are closer in age to me), but my husband’s cousin has two long term foster placements the same age, so we’ve got some bonus cousins which is really lovely to have them grow up together.

We are having an equally chill time at my parents’ in Portugal, beach days, playing in the garden, puzzles, endless rounds of uno.

That sounds delightful (though I don’t know that we’re really experiencing “winter” yet)! So glad your knee is feeling better, and safe travels tomorrow!

Did Laura get those gingerbread cookies from the store as a kit?!? Wondering for myself as we love the idea of a gingerbread house but find them slightly difficult for the ages of our kids. Those big go gingerbread look amazing and look easy.

Where did Laura find those amazing gingerbread cookies?! Wondering if it came in a kit?
My kids would much prefer that to the gingerbread houses. O

I know i don’t know you but have read since resident days. Your kids and you look generally happy, like yay for happy people in the world. Glad y’all are having a good time.

Thank you! Obviously no one is happy all of the time but I think that is generally true ❤️

This sounds like a great trip! I know, that area is hilly- last time I ran a lot of hills up north I came home with shin splints- I’m SO not used to it!
    Yum, those pizzas look good.

So glad you had this fun family time! I often get mildly anxious on behalf of others who don’t live near their parents and (from my perspective) seem to rarely see them!! I see my parents so often that I cannot imagine seeing them infrequently. So it made me happy for you to get a nice parent visit in! (And bonus sister and niece!)

I think I saw my parents 4x in 2023 – January in NC, April for spring break, July and Dec in PHL! But I know what you mean. We definitely see our local fam (Josh’s side) way more. I do text with my immediate family every single day plus FaceTime every week or so, so that helps!
