Random December Thoughts

December 9, 2023

❄︎ It was 78 degrees on my run at 8:30 this morning (“feels like” 82). Um happy holidays.

❄︎ We have made it through 2 nights of Hanukkah! 6 to go. Plus another birthday. Unfortunately we are running out of relatives’ gifts. I fear I am not done with shopping.

❄︎ Family MEETING. We are going to have one today – I am determined! Topics up for discussion:

  • CAMP. Who wants to go where? (“Stay home and play video games all summer” would probably be the top choice for all 3 but not on my list of options.)
  • Future family travel.
  • Some discussion of current routines: what is working / what isn’t
  • Decluttering plans for winter break. Who is excited? Probably no one, but we have to do at least some of it.

SIDE NOTE related to family meeting + logistics: I have an Essential Calendar that I will be spending today filling out – basically a giant paper calendar showing 3 months at a time. CANNOT WAIT to do that this afternoon. (Please note, I am an affiliate for Essential Calendar – I don’t say yes many of these kinds of partnerships, but they are a small company that makes a super-useful product. You can check their calendars out here and use BESTLAIDPLANS for 10% off)

❄︎ I am more invested as a soccer mom than I ever thought I would be! Josh is at today’s game (up in Boca) and I’m sad to be missing it. (I am on gymnastics / piano duty)

I took the girls out after gymnastics a couple of weeks ago so I owed him his own dinner. We went on Tuesday.
(He is my twin of the family by the way.)

❄︎ It feels surreal that we were supposed to be running a marathon tomorrow. WOW. BUT, positive news in that I ran 6 pain-free miles today AND that I am really enjoying the Peloton for cross-training! I will likely start gradually increasing mileage again (YAY) and hope my body takes it well!!

post-Pelo glow

❄︎ I do feel this fall/early winter felt too crowded and hectic. Trying to figure out how to prevent that next year. It does help that next year my call is more front-loaded into the earlier months (this year it was the opposite).

What is the “Less is More” thing hiding behind your son?

I have no idea! I guess a piece of restaurant decor 🙂 we were at a ramen place (Litchi delights, same owners as Sovereign, for the locals)

Big fan of Sovereign poke bowls. Poke menu looks the same but less $ at Litchi. Good to know. 😉

I’m glad I’m not the only one with the decluttering big right now! Just finished reading Marie Kondo again and completed step 1- clothing. It felt good!!!

    Happy Hannakuh !

One of the guys in my running group is doing Jacksonville today, so I’m following the live tracking. I wish everything had gone smoothly for you, and you were running today, but Bayshore is going to be a great experience! Also – why can’t we get nice weather on the weekend? It’s always a Wednesday!

I asked my kids last night about a specific camp that they’ve always done (and is a December registration!), and my oldest said “I think this summer I’m just going to lay in bed and watch YouTube videos” and I said, “I think you might be surprised that that would – in fact – get boring eventually”. Their only complaint about the camp is that last year they happened to go on one of the weeks that it was horribly hot (and it has a large outdoor component), and I get it. It was horribly hot, but IDK, I guess we are at the point climate-wise that we just have to roll the dice and hope that we get a week that it’s just “normal summer” hot and not “go home and collapse” hot.

I didn’t know there was live tracking for JAX! I kind of liked the idea of flying under the radar, lol. I hope to run it next year. Bayshore/JAX seem like a perfect pair esp because I could dial down the longest runs in June/July/Aug. I am FINALLY really seeing progress with running without pain (YAY) so let’s hope the injuries remain at bay.

Excited for your year in running too!

Oh wow, the JAX marathon is this weekend? It seems like a VERY busy time of year and difficult to fit a marathon in. So there’s that silver lining- your life is probably a lot easier without running it.
Yay for pain-free running! And I hope you got everything accomplished at the family meeting.

You look amazing in your post peloton photo. Have you changed anything other than running a lot to get this leaner strong look? I’m always looking for tips, especially with nutrition as I love to exercise and am useless with nutrition!

I have definitely been emphasizing protein. I also lost a bit of weight without a lot of effort after stopping birth control (this also fixed my migraines, so huge win). But I think it may be a good angle too 🤣
