Thanks for the Memories, Legoland!

We’ll Miss You, Legoland!

We really had a fun trip. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and overall vibe at Legoland. Our kids are definitely aging out (not really G yet, but def the other two) so I don’t think it’s that likely we’ll be back, and I’m a little bit sad about it!

We were very low key about it all but at Legoland you don’t have to be all strategic and type A the way most people are at Disney World. You can just . . . show up, do a few fun things, buy some legos, enjoy the atmosphere, and go home happy. And that’s what we did!

Highlights:

  • We all went on the two roller coasters that were open — Dinocoaster and the Dragon Ride (I think their most ‘thrilling’ ride there was closed and I wasn’t mad about it, haha). I am not a roller coaster person (neither is Josh) but didn’t mind them too much because as roller coasters go, these two were not too serious. Side note: I googled the length of these rides while in line, and found out they were so short that even if they were terrible, I knew it would be fine – knowledge is power! However, neither C nor G were fans! Both were good sports (I was proud of them for trying!) but after the second G asked to not do any more which was absolutely fine with me! We got the BEST/funniest picture out of it though! (Kids don’t want it shared publicly but it’s just pure human emotion and I will treasure it.)
the carousel was more her speed
  • Josh and I went for a 10 mile run together in amazing weather before we hit the park (parks don’t open until 10 so we had time). I love that our kids are old enough that we feel comfortable doing this.
  • We ate a lot of delicious food — ice cream for lunch and then dinner at Harry’s Old Place (our third visit — we’ve gone each Legoland trip). This place does not take reservations (and you all know I love reservations!) but was worth the ~45+ min wait. Plus, they had outside benches for waiting and you could grab a drink from the bar, which was lovely. C & G watched a TV show on Josh’s phone while we waited and A hung out with Josh and me; we did some future travel scheming.
  • Bedtime went much MUCH better last night. Whew. I feel . . .rested!?!
  • We loved the mini cities! NYC, DC, LA, SF, Las Vegas, various FL cities including Miami Beach, and more!
  • The kids spent a while building a collaborative roller coaster out of Legos which was really cute; they also enjoyed the ‘mini world’ a lot!

Note: I have so many good pix including some I am in but the kids have definitely gotten choosier about what to share! Maybe I’ll get some more approved (but probably not, lol).

Weekly Recap Otherwise

Will be back to my ‘normal’ weekly recaps next week!

So far, I have run 42 miles (will be 50-52 because I’m planning to run after we get home), did zero strength training, read very little, and spent too much time on my phone. ALL of this related to the last push in finishing my book and then traveling. I am excited to get back into my routines and catch up on the rest of life next week! I already have my strength sessions booked and am excited to be back.

I am participating in my own digital detox starting tomorrow!

This place seems more our speed to be honest! As you know, I have no desire to take our family to Disney. We will see if the boys really push for us to go, but I’d be more apt to go to Legoland for a day while staying on the golf coast or something along those lines. That picture of G on the carousel is so sweet!

It does seem that you guys are in the sweet spot in terms of ages for traveling or entering that sweet spot! That gives me something to look forward to in about three years!

Legoland sounds delightful! Somehow we’ve managed to avoid all things Disney in this household. Skipped directly from Ocean City kiddie rides to Dorney Park, Gardaland, and Cedar Point roller coaster (I will NOT ride them with her lol!!!). Would love to hear more details about your upcoming travel… we are planning a big family trip to Ireland this year and I am sooooo excited, but a little over it planning-wise. A friend suggested that I only really have five more summers to do family trips with Dylan before she turns 18 and I was like crap! Better make them good, then!

Glad you had a good time. I love the chill vibe of Legoland. You didn’t miss anything by not going on the Great Lego Race coaster – I actually find that one terrifying and I like roller coasters, lol. I just can’t wait until Ian is tall enough to go on Emmett’s Flying Couch by himself. I find the rides with a screen nauseating, though that one isn’t too bad if you just close your eyes.

Josh went on that with G (the flying one, not Race)! I was glad not to, lol. NONE OF US would have enjoyed the Great Lego Race so I’m so glad it was closed, the pressure was off!!!

Yes, that’s how I remember Legoland. Fun, low key, you end up buying Legos (of course.) Much more sane than the Disney parks. I’m not sure it’s worth a trip up there, but you were there anyway for the gymnastics meet, so I think it was a great choice.
The only way I can put a photo of my daughter on my blog is if I blur out her face, sigh. Even then she’s not always okay with it.
Yay for a return to normal life!

We went to Legoland in San Diego last fall and LOVED it! Totally agree on how relaxed it seems compared to Disney. We also really loved the hotel and all the amenities for kids- it was so fun doing the scavenger hunts and the kids played in lego pits (no duplos hah) and the elevators played disco music. Such a fun time!!
