Quotes from Gentle:
I had trouble sleeping last night (ugh, and so not like me) so had some extra time to read and reflect this morning. I ended up finishing Gentle, which I loved. Two quotes that resonated with me this morning:
“How would you feel if you got what it was you most wanted?” – page 232, in reference to the idea that instead of following a predetermined path and stubbornly sticking to it, start with the end in mind as there might be another (gentler) way.
“We never really know what’s next. We resist uncertainty, but it’s deeply woven into being human.” – page 234, and so true.
So many mic drop sentences in this book (Gentle: Rest More, Stress Less, and Live the Life You Actually Want by Courtney Carver). I will be moving onto some of the other books recommended for those in the midst of change / something hard — thank you all for the great recs.

An empty space weekend?!
We have no soccer games, no gymnastics (they are closed for spring break), no birthday parties, no date night (Josh is on call) — almost nothing on the calendar, and this makes me both happy and also a little nervous (staying home all day with all 3 and ‘chilling’ is not an option, but it’s harder and harder to find activities where all 3 will be happy).
Current ideas include:
- the pool. Would be easy and fun for kids esp if I can get someone to meet us.
- the library
- bookstore
- movie (maybe tomorrow as weather looks less ideal) – I would totally see Snow White, might be a harder sell for C but movie snacks would probably be a motivator. Minecraft movie isn’t out yet (and I’m really hoping Josh can take them to that!)
- something outside TBD (new to us playground? let A hang with a friend while I take the other two somewhere? SOMETHING)
I probably should have planned something but here we are.
Also on the docket:
- setting up new laptop (!)
- finishing camp signups (blah but getting urgent)
- some travel planning (flights etc)
- probably a lot more reading on the couch
OHHHH and I got into a Club Pilates trial class (I had been on the waitlist but yesterday I came off!). So will see how that goes. Really hoping it will be a good fit!

Unplanned weekends make me a bit anxious, too. We don’t really have much planned this weekend. And it’s going to be rainy/snowy for much of the weekend so we need to come up with something! We will probably go to the library this afternoon. It will be mobbed with people but oh well. Will gets his tonsils/adenoids out + tubes next Friday so next weekend will be an off weekend but hopefully Phil can get Paul out of the house. Paul gets to see Minecraft as a field trip through his school childcare program during spring break next week. He is SO EXCITED!! He doesn’t have Minecraft yet but knows all about it and is just waiting for us to let him have it on his iPad (that day is coming soon – I know it’s one of the better games).
That book sounds like something I need to read!
*Makes mental note to get Minecraft tickets for next weekend*. Do your kids like board games? Maybe a trip to Target to pick out a new game to play?
Beach? You said yourself earlier this week you don’t go often enough. I love chill weekends but tbh I usually spend them working these days.
I am too scared to monitor all 3 at once there on my own, even though it probably would be okay!
I’ve kept meaning to comment on previous posts! I’m so sorry you’re going through this Sarah, what a huge adjustment. I’m sure this is a long shot, but have they checked your magnesium level? I went through a crazy period with tons of PVCs and have had a few episodes of SVT (they think), but my magnesium was on the low end and supplementing has helped. Like you, I find that coffee (and dark chocolate, sadly!) make my PVCs worse, especially if I drink it on an empty stomach, but I can tolerate tea much better. I hope your weekend with all 3 goes smoothly!
My magnesium WAS a little low when it was drawn in the hospital (all of my labs looked .. shocky, high creatinine, high glucose, low mag and phos, etc). but then it normalized. I might try taking some at night though!!
I really like those quotes. It’s good reminder to be open minded. Open weekend? That’s a luxury! Your plan sounds wonderful.
for a new album for simple pleasures, I’m really enjoying Lucy Dacus. Not sure what kind of music you like but I’d describe the recent album as gentle so that seems to fit your current vibe!
I heard bits of it on all songs considered and agree!!
Well by now you’re halfway through the weekend- I hope you had a good day today and hope you can sell all three on the movie idea tomorrow.
That book sounds incredible, and exactly right for where you are right now. I like the quote about uncertainty- so, so true.
You’ll have to give us a review of the pilates! And… I noticed another commenter mentioning tea. Have you tried drinking tea? Like Earl Grey? It’s so good!
Tea is . . . okay to me. Do I hate it? No. Do I actively LIKE it? Also no. Maybe I will work on this . . .
