MADE IT!

December 23, 2025

Probably our easiest PBI > BZN travel day yet

Was it totally free of all stress? Nope – we had quite a bumpy landing on the way down (we’ve experienced this same thing before, so I was sort of ready for it!), checked luggage took about an hour to emerge (we didn’t freak out though because they kept us reasonably updated), and wowww my heart noticed the change in altitude.

(I am trying to figure out if I experienced a ton of arrhythmia every year here and didn’t realize, or if it’s new — but it was very noticeable, as I can feel all the skipped/ventricular beats. I made a slight increase in my medication and today seems better so far as I’m just sitting here. I really really HOPE skiing goes okay.)

landed here after solid 14 hours of travel, we always eat at the lodge restaurant!

SKI DAY #1: Here we go!

Kids are going to ski school and Josh and I decided to do an afternoon lesson (he wants to work on mogul technique . . . I am not convinced there will be enough snow for that but I guess we will see!).

My goal is to take things easy, not worry about keeping up with anyone, and just generally enjoy the surroundings!!! So excited.

The snow probably won’t be amazing but it is what it is and we are going to make the best of whatever is there. (And bonus, we won’t be that cold because today’s high is . . . 41. Ahh well!).

I hope the increase in meds and adjustment to altitude help with the arrhythmias! I am sure that is hard to feel those and not worry a bit. I hope things even out today.

What a change in weather from last year when it was bitterly cold. Bummer that the conditions aren’t better but I know you’ll make the most of your time there and make great memories!!!

I live in CO (after moving from NYC, zero elevation) and this sounds dumb but I was amazed at how much consistent water and consistent electrolytes I actually need now. The dry air is also a whole thing. I’m sure you’re doing that already and the heart history is a whole other can of worms (ie I def don’t know if changes in fluid and electrolyte consumption is good or bad) but just sharing my experience bc it wasn’t totally obvious to me though probably is to everyone else.

This month has been so odd weather wise. I hope this is mostly a fluke and not super climate change influenced. Our high today is 65 and while lovely, yikes.

I second what Anna said about drinking water, for altitude. When visiting Colorado, I didn’t notice any changes from altitude change, for many years. Then suddenly did. So the next visit, bought a case of bottled water at the grocery store (which I never do, but the bottles are lightweight and easy to carry in quantity) , and carried several bottles with me on my person, and in the car, constantly working on drinking and it made a huge difference. Glad you arrived safely! 🙂

I’m always delighted to read your experiences. I love how you come to this with the attitude of enjoying and not worrying about your performance with skiing.

I hope you have the BEST time away. It sounds like it’s almost a second home to you (in the sense of feeling perfectly at ease). Hooray <3

Went to Santa Fe a few years ago and was awake all night diuresing the first three nights we were there. I felt totally wiped out. Probably lost a bunch of electrolytes too. Denver is not as bad but I still notice the fatigue and it gets worse each year. Yay for getting older. 🙃 I hope the arrhythmia gets better! Enjoy yourself!
