5 Things I’m Looking Forward To in February

January 30, 2026

( . . on a Friday)

(I stole this post idea from Kae!)

((Just heard the Catherine O’Hara died! She was so awesome– what a loss, and I am sad she didn’t get to live out the rest of her life enjoying the fruits of her talents + labors.))

1- SUPER quick trip to PHL (staying one whole night) this weekend to celebrate my niece’s bday!! I haven’t made it to many of her parties and am really excited to make it work this year. G is coming with me (niece Miriam is turning 6, so G is just ~2 yr older and I think will have a blast, plus she is excited for the 1:1 mommy time).

2- The Super Bowl. I know!! I still don’t really care about the football (I 100% acknowledge it is a complex game and can see how people get into it, but my spatially challenged brain can’t even find the ball on the screen half the time so . . . yeah.)

confession time: I had to google who is playing . . . I knew New England but not Seattle

(This was on Kae’s list, as was watching Winter Olympics! I’m actually excited for that too but didn’t want to steal all of her items, ha.)

BUT – we are going to do themed food (New England = lobster rolls; Seattle= ?? Seattle natives, WHAT IS A GOOD SEATTLE FOOD?) and I think our Miami Beach BFFs might come up and watch/eat with us! So that will be fun.

3- Seeing some theater!! It’s been forever but we just booked Back to the Future at the big theater in Fort Lauderdale. The kids know the story from the movie so I think it will be fun. It’s been forever I feel like since I’ve seen any live theater (well, aside from Nutcracker) and I’d like to go more.

4- Watching A compete in gymnastics twice! Barring no fractures (please). Meet season is in full swing — it started in January, but due to her broken finger she only had one so far. She did really well in her last one (especially beam + floor) so just excited to watch her.

5- SKI WEEK TRIP. So they don’t call it ski week, but . . . A/C’s school has a week off in February in addition to a week off for spring break in late March/early April. (For anyone curious, I consider Quintile 2 to begin at the start of that March/April break not this one).

I didn’t have enough vacation days to take both weeks off last year, but since I’m working Christmas this year I did the PL calculations and figured out I could swing it, so we will be going to Philadelphia (my fam, plus I get to hang out with Laura!), plus some skiing in the Poconos and then a brief visit to NYC (we have Jellycat diner reservations . . .) to see Josh’s brother + cousins. Potential side quests: Dept of Note in Doylestown and possibly Yoseka Stationery in Brooklyn.

Anyway,I am excited for this. It’s rare I get to experience ‘real’ winter not just once but TWICE in a season.

Extra bonus: Between the two of us, February contains very little weekend call (I think Josh has one day).

Oh! And if you happen to be a South FL local, one more thing is coming up – I’m giving a talk (free obviously) at one of the West Palm Beach library branches (this one). They are even giving out free (GOOD!!) swag. Date is Feb 25th (Wed) at 6 pm!

Seattle food — Maybe oysters or salmon. Definitely coffee.

Things I am looking forward to in February:
    1) Puerto Rico with daughter (Vieques! I am so excited!)
    2) NO CALL (I had 4 in January, so maybe this is payback)
    3) Hysteroscopy D&C and Bone Marrow biopsy (well not really looking forward to the procedure, but I am looking forward to a teensy bit of closure, maybe)
    4) Dog agility trial in Fort Wayne, IN (I have come to really enjoy exploring small cities with the family for these events)
    5) Having some bandwidth to get some work done (maybe)

Maybe we will watch some Olympics too? I don’t care much about these sports, but sometimes it’s fun to watch curling, biathlon, or luge. I’ve seen those slopes in Cortina and they are *straight* down. I should make dinner reservations somewhere too so that we get out of the house.

oh man – wishing you the best with those medical procedures! I hope you get some time to REST after, too!!! I want to watch some skiing (including jumps) and ice skating. And YAY for the PR trip – it will be gorgeous i am sure!!!

Okay, if you come up with any great Seattle themed foods for the Super Bowl, let me know. We’re rooting for Seattle, so we’ll either do Seattle themed or just generic Super Bowl type foods (no lobster rolls for us!) I am looking forward to it, AND the Olympics.
You have a lot of fun things coming up! And I’m putting February 25th on my calendar- hopefully I can make it : )

Seattle: Salmon, smoked salmon. Washington is also known for Bing cherries and apples.

Seattle food: Washington apples, salmon, rainer cherries (though wrong season), Starbucks or Seattle Best Coffee, Beechers cheese. And though as a Seattle resident I’ve never had it, Seattle Hot Dog – topped with cream cheese and grilled onions.

So fun!! Let me know if you want any NYC /brooklyn recommendations! ACRE is an awesome little Japanese cafe near the stationary store.
