I’m Tired, And It Was Worth It . . .

March 4, 2026

As I mentioned, I’m having some version of a year of yes. Yesterday was one of those things we decided to do that seemed impractical . . . and then we did it anyway!

YES, it was a weeknight.

YES, the tickets were pricey (though admittedly that has not stopped us before – we typically go to a few Heat games a year through a small share in someone’s season tickets).

YES, the kids had school the next day.

But come on – how many chances does one have to see their (second) cousin (once removed) PLAY IN THE NBA?!

And omg!! Danny Wolf did not disappoint – he is a great player, totally fun to watch, and . . .yeah, he really is that tall:

Nets did not win, but they put up a decent fight
I watched his stats – ended with 11 points! Pretty great for a 21 year old fresh out of college bball!

The only downer was that I only had two post-game passes (his father texted them to me after my dad asked his cousin — Danny’s grandmother!). And G would have loved a pic too (she came to the game too!). But I will try to make this happen again next year with her — I feel like there’s a great chance he will still be playing!

I talked to his dad and mom for a bit (I was like “umm, is it annoying to have random second cousins coming out of the woodwork?” and they said no and were super nice!) and was able to get a photo op — and he signed C’s shirt! SUPER COOL.

THIS IS WHAT A 2 FOOT HEIGHT DIFFERENCE LOOKS LIKE!!!!!

(I know that pic looks kind of fake. It isn’t!!! Obviously of the small proportion of genes we share . . .none of them are related to height.)

C’s face as he had his jersey signed:

ANYWAY. What a night. We got home at 12:30 (and the drive home was ROUGH – Josh drove and I was so tireeeddddd) and I told the kids we are going to get through the day and then all go to bed at 8 pm.

(I tend to feel like I can survive one night of terrible sleep, but not two!)

Wow, that height difference is really something! It’s easy to forget how tall these NBA players are since they are standing next to other tall people. But then when you see them next more normal-heighted people, the height difference is stunning! How cool to see a relative out there on the court!

That height difference made me laugh! It sounds like it was a good once in a blue moon adventure.

What a fun adventure. So cool that you and C could meet him and take a picture. The amount of height difference is a bit comical.

How fun! Did his t-shirt remind you of the ones we saw at Nordstrom? And to crack you up, I have actually heard of him! Not because I’m such a basketball fan. I registered the name because my first boyfriend’s name (at overnight camp in 6th grade) was also Danny Wolf!

TOO funny! But definitely not the same one since he is 21 years old 🙂 🙂

Ummm… Yeah, I’m pretty sure my Danny Wolf is now 50 and not tall in any sense of the word!

ha!! I do see it in these pix! His dad definitely resembles my dad a little bit except for the height part . . .

We have a “long lost cousin” playing on the Las Vegas Knights Hockey team, Brett Howden. We joke about it, but we are sure he isn’t on our family tree.

That’s so cool, Sarah! My side of the family has no professional athletes to speak of, but my husband was super excited to learn that his cousin once trained with one of the Winter Olympics Italian biathletes lol. They have the rogue tall person genes like he does, but those don’t seem to have been passed down to our daughter. Such a fun experience for you guys!

This sounds amazing, and yes, sometimes it’s worth it to stay up late and be tired the next day. The picture of the three of you is HILARIOUS. That is quite a height difference!
