1- First order of business: We have a winner:

Our Random Number Generator did the honors, and TAMMY is the winner of the (very large and in charge) Dailee Mom planner! Tammy, I emailed you!!

I hope you enjoy it (and that you don’t find it TOOOO heavy!)
2- A listener alerted me to this YT video by creator Zacc Rowlands featuring Best Laid Plans (the book)! I LOVE that it inspired a switch to analog calendar management and am so flattered that he shared it in this way.
Super cool to see how someone implemented parts of the system with his own customizations.
3- SUMMER READING HAS BEGUN. I am calling it, and I am starting with this title from the MMD SRG – The One Day You Were My Husband.

The protagonist is a surgical resident and it seems like it will be appropriately juicy. It is also our book club pick, suggested by another MMD fan in the group!
4- Q3 officially kicks off on Monday for us. G finishes school today (yay) but a) I feel a new quintile MUST begin on Monday and b) it definitely doesn’t feel over until the dance show has passed, and that’s tomorrow. I do feel I can say we survived this week of totally weird scheduling (5 separate sessions outside of the usual times for dance rehearsals between the 2 girls).
5- Loved reading Kelsey’s summer update. First of all, she has trademarked Not Fun Mom (not really, but I love it). I think I am a moderately fun mom? Maybe? (My kids may disagree.)
I am planning to do some thinking about summer screen rules and goals etc (and involving the kids in the discussions). Letting it be a total free-for-all will not work in our household (there are certain members who would literally tether themselves to a screen up waking up and not look up for 15 hours). BUT I do not want anything complicated, either!
In the past what usually works for us is to just have a time when screens are allowed, and not until then, possibly with some things that need to happen first (ie: go outside, put away laundry, etc). It’s clear-cut and not very complicated. AND, most weeks the kids will be in some kind of camp/class so this will sort itself out. But the next 9 days are pretty free for C/G and thus we still need to think about things a bit.
(Certain of my kids would LOOOOVE those daily clipboards Kelsey shows and others would probably . . . not. Ha.)

Oh, I have to read Kelsey’s post!!! I agree screen rules are tricky, because all kids are different. And screens are addictive, so putting limits is usually necessary.
I would love to hear if Tammy reports back on that mammoth planner. And… very cool about the youtube video! It must be very satisfying to see that you really helped someone like that.
I think my kids’ views of whether I am a fun mom or not will really change as the get older. Right now, I think they would say I am a fun mom because I plan a lot of fun weekend adventures. Like last weekend I took them to a local state park and they got donuts before (I got an iced tea from SBUX). I think as they get older and we don’t need to be out of the house as much, I might not seem as fun. Their summer is very structured with childcare M-F every weekend except the weeks they will be up at my parents’ lake home. So I do not expect them to do any worksheets/workbooks/etc. My only requirement is daily reading – we have to read to the 5 yo and usually I read to Paul (we are reading Nevermoor right now which we both are enjoying) or he can opt to read on his own.
I am glad their summers are so scheduled because managing screen time IS NOT FUN. They get screen time in the morning and afternoon on weekend days but no screen time otherwise. They could do with less screen time on the weekend but it allows the adults to get some time off the clock… So if I was stricter about it, I’d also have less time to go to OTF, read, rest in the afternoon, etc.
