1- Last night the kids slept over at our nanny’s house and it was truly glorious. I really really needed the one-night palate cleanser. Josh and I ordered Indian takeout and pretended to be empty nesters. It was FUN. I am very very happy that we will be growing old together. I think we’ll be good at it 🙂
2- I finally got to pair this book with a beer (it’s a major theme in the book as you might guess from the title). I do not drink very often during the week, but last night it felt right. And the pictured Ommegang sour was delicious.
3- Post recommendation: this Wait But Why introduction to 2020. OMG you guys. MIND BLOWN by this (even though I feel like . . . it shouldn’t be shocking to get older? Yet somehow it is?).
Particularly mind-blowing: his Wonder Years comparison and the moon landing / 9/11 comparison. Just wow.
4- Podcast recs: I thought the recent Simple Families podcast reflecting on the host’s year without alcohol was fascinating, and I also really enjoyed the Girls Next Door 2020 Goals podcast! Finally, HerMoney’s interview of Julie Morgenstern was great. Two former BOBW guests chatting with each other!
5- WORD OF THE YEAR: (drumroll please . . . ) — is NOW!
NOW. As in not later. As in being in the present. As in taking time to get things done now rather than pushing them forward. As in doing the things I want to do now (within reason). As in paying attention to how I spend my precious time. As in doing kind things for others and giving (time and money) now rather than putting it on the docket for ‘someday’.
Happy Friday!

Good word! I might combine it with my words (have yet to choose, or not): magic, joy, and, come to think of it: choose). Happy 2020!
Ha! Cheers from Belgium! Glad to see you starting the year with a Belgian-style beer (and a kids-free evening!). I have spent my day doing my 2020 goals and planning and listened to BoBw latest episode. Perfect timing!
YES! I love Belgian-style beers 🙂 Whether they are from Belgium or not! Hopefully I will get to go back there someday (went once but it was in 2002!).
My word for 2020 is Love. Love where I am in life. Love my coworkers (they really are amazing people). Love my past. Love my friends and family for all their crazy flaws. Love the opportunities that life gives. Etc, etc. And most importantly, do a much better job of loving myself.
LOVE it 🙂 thank you for sharing!
that is a great, great word!
So glad all is well again!! Meant to ask on earlier post- what made the older kids more challenging this break than G?
Also random but do your kids do audiobooks? Mine are still too little but people seem to rave about audiobooks for older kids.
Oh my the WaitButWhy post! As someone born in the (gulp) 70s that type of perspective it sobering. We had a babysitter that worked for us on Saturday nights pretty regularly all through her college years. Near the end of her tenure with us (maybe 4 years ago) she asked us what life was like before the Internet…Ouch!!!
Just started Lager Queen this week! And also love HerMoney — will have to look for that episode in your history. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the Simple Families podcast recommendation – had not heard of this one but seems right up my alley. I’ve also been considering giving up alcohol (just drinking less and less over the years plus motivated by anything that’s healthy for my body) so I enjoyed that episode. Glad you enjoyed our goals episode! Always one of my favorites.
LOVE your word! Now is when i do everything – I need to stop more (!). My word for this year is light.
Here is the post if you want to have a read.

That Wait but Why post = mind blown!
Will you be sharing your 20 for 20? Do you make one?
