I had “go 48 hours screen-free!” on my 20 for 2020 list. Since it’s one of the goals that remain doable in the current era, I feel like now is the perfect time! First of all, it’s Memorial Day so that any weekend planning/organizing that might require a screen (ie, weekly review-type-stuff) can be deferred until Monday without an issue.
Second, Josh and I are both off, so it will be a nice time to focus on the family / kids / etc.
I had sort of envisioned competing this goal while on vacation (at the Inn at Little Washington for my 40th bday, perhaps). But since that’s not reality right now . . . might as well do it now!
MY GOAL . . . MY RULES
Will I really be 100% screen free, you ask? Nah. But that’s not really the point. I just want to eliminate the use of Phone As Distraction / Entertainment Device. To that end, here are my rules for the next 48 hours:
Screens may be used for:
1- Listening to music (we have no physical music, so digital is the only way music can be played in this house!)
2- An already-scheduled friend Zoom call (on the docket for Sunday evening).
3- An already-scheduled wardrobe “try on” session
4- Ordering dinner for takeout night
5- Playing my Beachbody workouts
I think that’s it! I can also use the “phone” feature of my iPhone to call someone if needed. That’s not really screen use anyway!
While it’s fairly clear from the above, things I will not be engaging with include: email, Instagram, blog comments, online news, even (gasp) podcasts.
HERE WE GOOOOOOO!

This is amazing!! I cannot wait to hear how this goes. I should probably try one.. What about texting though?
I did not text; I did read one text but I had all of my group texts on mute 🙂
