Saturday Dreaming

July 9, 2022

Josh is currently with G on their Daddy Day and I am home catching up on 3894 things and answering a few sporadic calls (it has NOT been bad — I feel lucky!).

Things I am pondering:

1- I kind of want to run a marathon again. (Coco – this may be partially your fault). And for some reason I found myself eyeing this very impractical choice: Big Sur. Luckily, I probably won’t get in (it appears to be lottery based and I’m guessing odds are not good).

It’s also super hilly and as noted in the comments previously, hill training is HARD to come by in FL. I’ll just let that idea marinate for a while.

(This was my last marathon, #4. A mere 13 years ago. I was a lot faster then . . . .)

2- Tomorrow marks the halfway point of sleepaway camp! I am wondering if/how A&C will be different when they return. More independent? Less attached to screens (lol, wishful thinking)? They will have 2 weeks at home with fairly minimal structure. There will be some tutoring (one kid) and some pre-school-year work that was assigned and has been ignored thus far (both kids). Then we have a family trip and them BAM, school. I’m trying not to rush the time but my GOD it is going fast.

(Hence my desire to see the world’s wonders? Midlife crisis awakening, continued?)

3- Book tracking. I’m going to end this list at #3 because Lessons in Chemistry is calling . . .

current slightly unconventional reading/media tracker!

How about a half marathon? Still need to train plenty, but less recovery needed on the days of long training runs.

Agree that would be far more practical. Maybe that first 🙂 my last one I believe was in early 2020 pre-P!

I ran Big Sur in 2010! It was beautiful but hilly and tough. I chose it because Runners World put it on a bucket list and then noted “if you are only going to do one marathon do this one.” Since I may only do one marathon in my life….there we go! So could be a good one if you don’t plan to start a marathon habit.

Random fact of the day, Florida has the lowest “high point” in the USA at Britton Hill (pans handle area) which is something like 430 feet above sea level. So I feel you on the no hills thing for Big Sur. Treadmill?

Just do it sarah! I hesitated when I confirmed my place for the Berlin one as I haven’t run one in 3 years and was dreading training in tropical country. But I’m so glad I just gave me the freedom to sign up and try it out the training. If it doesn’t work it’s fine but I will give it a try. I just booked my night before race hotel, almost 500 dollars but I’m so exited. I haven’t finished this one and I’m already contemplating what’s next, any good marathon i Middle East so I can keep my one marathon per continent goal? Marathon at new places makes a destination trip for the whole family.
