Call Week Stuff
This was kind of a weird call week – I was not that busy in the hospital. I had some consults to see (both new + those were are following), but just not as many as is typical. The overnight call volume was a bit higher though, especially early in the night.
I still had a lot of nervous energy though and just had trouble focusing on anything else. About 4 days in, I just stopped trying and just kind of accepted it — and my feelings about it — and that ended up feeling okay, honestly! Self-compassion for the win, I guess!
I have limited bandwidth on my call weeks and I always will. I still got all my runs/workouts in, which is beneficial to my mental health. I still did essential parenting tasks, though with more help from Josh during the wee and our nanny who is working this weekend because both Josh + I are on call. On a slow afternoon, I did complete my MOC (to maintain board certification) questions for the quarter in both gen peds + peds endo! I did not do much else.
And I feel — just kind of okay about it all! Two more nights.
Rosh Hashanah
We missed celebrating the holiday with Josh’s parents last night and they ended up sending us a meal (via Whole Foods pickup)!!!
Cameron had a really ill-timed soccer game (that ended up rained/lightning’d out . . .sigh) so we weren’t able to have as leisurely of a dinner as we would have liked, BUT we all sat down to a delicious dessert of apple pie afterwards.
(AND we have leftovers for tonight so we will be able to celebrate again without anyone needing to rush off to a field.)
Right now I’m at gymnastics and after I hit publish I am going to go about the task of switching BACK into my original 2023 Hobonichi. This is totally unnecessary and is mostly just for relaxation purposes but whatever. Full circle planner peace, baby!! And then I will go round in the hospital.
Time Tracking
OMG I give up. Maybe I will try the phone/google sheets method though I am LOATHE to have another reason to pick up my phone! Maybe I should just choose a non-call week.

I had moved to a Passion Planner for the summer, and it wasn’t me, so I too moved back to my original 2023 Hobonichi for the last trimester. (I divide my year in 3s).
Ooh trimesters. I have tried quarters, but too business-like. And seasons – but winter in December is totally unlike winter in February for example. I don’t have a tie to the academic calendar any more, so Sarah quintiles don’t quite fit. Hmmm maybe trimesters?
Work in progress – but it’s a progress I enjoy.
Ooooo trimesters makes so much sense
I think tracking during a call week would be hard. I am sure you don’t have mental space for extraneous tasks! Good for you for getting all your workouts in! That was nice of family to send a holiday meal for pick-up!
I had a really overwhelming week for different reasons (very busy at work plus training my new hire). And then this morning our 5yo woke up at 5am with the stomach flu. 🙁 9 days in and already dealing with school germs. But I managed to get a Caroline Girvan workout in while the toddler played with toys in the basement. So I feel good about that!
Maybe time tracking during a call week wouldn’t be that helpful anyway. While I fully appreciate LV’s idea that there are no typical weeks, there are definitely those weeks that are more atypical. Given how few call weeks you have at this point I am not sure that the data you get tells you anything about any weeks except call weeks. Just a thought.
I just made the switch back to Hobonichi after some experimenting as well – solidarity, baby!
Thank you for saying you’re switching planners to calm yourself! I SO do this!
