This is where I’d love to share a family pic but I need to get Kid Approval and since I may not, I will share pix that I know are safe for posting:
We had a really lovely family dinner at Estia – all 4 kids (mine + niece M) were well behaved and it was just a great night.
I ended up bailing on Moana 2 in favor of writing 2000 words, but the kids had fun! And this morning Josh and I made it out in the (light) rain to the local turkey trot!! Laura ended up staying in which was 100% understandable (cold rain is . . . wet and cold) but since we were only ~0.7 mi from the start I convinced Josh to just try heading out with me and we’d turn around if it was THAT bad.
Then he ended up running a super fast race (19:44, 3rd in his age group despite being less than two weeks away from the NEXT 10 year age group!) and admitted it was good that we went!!
I kind of struggled to find my groove in the rain, plus I wore the above jacket which I ended up taking off and tying around my waist — totally annoying, I do not recommend this approach! But oh well. I ran a 7:34/mi average which seemed a bit meh, and hoping the marathon predictors are not accurate for this one!
(I do think I am “better” at longer distances. But who knows!)
AND NOW we are all just hanging out, turkey is in the oven (with zero thanks to me), and the kids are loving hanging out with their cousin who happens to be a VERY cute and good-natured almost-5 year old.

Hard agree. Definitely living them now. Thankful for anyone reading this right now, family time, cozy sweaters, holiday playlists, pumpkin pie (and rum cake! new tradition?), and so much more. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Your parents are so cute!! I bet your niece is loving being around her big cousins! I know my boys love seeing their older cousins. They get so much attention.
I ran a 10k this am and it was quite cold – feels like of 15F. It took me a long time to warm up afterwards. But it was a great way to start the day!
Happy Thanksgiving!! We ran the A2 turkey trot and I did 33 min, which was not that much slower than 2y ago, despite only recently being able to run again 2/2 to the evil plantar fasciitis. (I still have it but running small amounts two days a week doesn’t seem to make it worse anymore). Then took a nap and went to a friend’s for Thanksgiving, which we’ve been doing for three years now. It’s so lovely and we are so grateful to be included in their family traditions! Ate too much… but oh well it was tasty. Today I plan to do a workout and lie around watching Thanksgiving movies. D is going to see Moana 2 with some friends. Tomorrow: dog agility in Lansing.
Glad you got to do a turkey trot! It really is a nice way to kick off thanksgiving. Maybe I’ll be able to get a kid to do it with me someday!
I’m in Australia so don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but want to say thank you for sharing with us. I usually catch up on all your posts with my morning coffee on Saturdays and I love it. Your honest and authentic writing is a joy to read and also relatable and life affirming. I’ve never commented before but just wanted to say I’m grateful for you!
That is so kind Amy! Thank you!
Sounds like you had a great time! 5ks are actually really hard. Marathon training doesn’t really translate, plus you were dealing with cold and rain! I still think you did well. and it’s a nice way to start the deal before the eating-fest begins. Happy Anniversary to your parents!
Happy anniversary to your parents (what a milestone), happy Thanksgiving and kudos for a great race. 7:34 pace is great!!
