Weekly Report: Week 6/52

February 9, 2025

Training: 15 Weeks Until Bayshore 2025

I’m continuing on my modified Hanson’s plan journey and so far it’s going well. I like the 2 weekly speed workouts (as opposed to the one I was doing before). I am a bit nervous about injury risk (seems like it would be higher with more frequent speedwork built in) but so far I feel good.

M: Social run with J, 8 mi @ 9:15/mi average. 70F and 98% (!) humidity.

T: Intervals, 8 x 600m (600m = about 0.37 mi) with 400m recovery in between. 1.5 mi warmup (9:45/mi), then interval paces: 7:18, 7:04, 7:06, 7:05, 7:15, 7:13, 7:07, 7:06. I did take a longer break between interval #6 and #7 because there’s a gate and some uneven sidewalk I wanted to avoid (it was dark and fast running + bad sidewalk + lack of light = high fall risk). 1.5 mi cooldown to total ~8.3 mi. 69F, 94% humidity.

W: Relaxed run, 7 mi @ 9:34/mi. 1 hr strength training (lower body – single leg squats, RDLS, hamstrings, jump squats, etc) @ semiprivate training gym.

R: MP run – 1 mi warmup @ 9:04/mi, then 6 mi at 8:02/mi average (fairly steady except first mile a tiny bit fast. These MP miles felt good until the last one! 1.7 mi cooldown @ 9:45/mi. 65F / 89%.

F: Social recovery run with T, 9:45/mi ave for 7 mi. 66F / 92%. 1 hr gym strength training (upper + core mostly)

S: Long run – 15 mi @ 8:53/mi ave. Started off more relaxed and ended in the 8:20s/8:30s. 66F at start (91%) and 74F at the end (at 9 AM).

S: TBD, I do want to do one more strength session.

Total = 54 mi / 2 strength sessions (2 hrs total) –> solid week of training! I was really happy with how these runs went. The weather was not optimal but it wasn’t terrible either.

Reading

Finished You Are Here last night! I am about to start Claire Lombardo’s Same As It Ever Was which we picked as a *family* book club read (Josh, his mom + dad, and his sister are all reading it). I am a little nervous because I did not like her first book and I DNF’d it which is pretty rare for me! We will see if this one hits differently! So far 2025 books read = 7, with breakdown of 5F, 2 NF.

I am also eagerly awaiting All Fours which is on my library holds list (and I might have to buy it because I’m currently at #27 and it’s a neighborhood book club pick for early March. We will see how fast that line moves!).

AND, I started Rangan Chatterjee’s book Make Change that Lasts. Felt like I needed an inspirational/uplifting type read right now.

Screen Time

Okay, some of this is Google Maps and I don’t know why Wednesday was so high, but I’m okay with this breakdown. I’m not totally ignoring the news but just getting what feels like a reasonable daily dose from NPR’s Up First and a sprinkling of other podcasts (Ezra Klein etc).

Oh! A had a great first meet experience; she placed 3rd in her category in vault and had a solid all-around performance. I will have to find out if I am allowed to share any pix, but proud of her! It was fun to watch.

I finished Annie Bot. It was a 3.5 star vs The Wedding People’s 5 stars for me. I did like it, and it was different than what I normally read. Thought provoking for sure, so I am glad I tried it! Looking forward to your review of All Fours- sounds like a great book club book.

Glad you found it interesting even if it didn’t hit in that 5 star way!!

I loved Claire Lombardi‘s first book and felt a little bit meh about her second one but I know people who loved her second book. It’s a long one so I hope it works for you! I just started a Ghosts by Dolly Alderton. i’m liking it so far. Unfortunately I can relate to her experience of being ghosted by someone you dating, although my ghosted experiences were far earlier in the dating process!

Congrats to A on her first meet! If you have a video of her vault, I’d love to see it!

My book club read All Fours this month as well. It’s a great book club pick because it’s very polarizing–felt like everyone either loved or hated it. Fun discussion with a bunch of early- to mid-40s women! I loved Claire Lombardo’s newest but I also liked the first one even more so I don’t know if that bodes well for you liking it or not!

I hated All Fours. Like when I finished reading it, I was upset that it existed. “Why” was the only question I had. “Why would you write that book?”

Oh wow! I’m not sure if I’ll love it or hate it !
